Something to brighten the days…

April 21, 2006

This is for Lisa who reminded me to enjoy the good things…. and Leah who just needs a blog to read!

Wednesday was my Mum’s 60th birthday. In usual style she didn’t want a fuss, and having just been on a holiday to Vanuatu as her present from Dad when we arrived mid morning with a lily plant we were the first present of the day!

I’d been wracking my brains for weeks trying to come up with a decent present and hadn’t been at all successful. In the end had decided I’d make her a mini album of the girls to go in a tiny little tin I bought at the craft show, but in my usual style I had left my run way too late to ever get that finished in time. But while looking at the spotlight catalogue the night before I suddenly had a brain wave and arrived at Mums insisting we needed to go shopping!

We took off and bought her a new white tea pot and two white mugs. We then headed off to spotlight to pick up some paint. My Mum is a big tea drinker and years before I had bought her a teapot with a pig on which she had loved. She broke it several times and glued it back together but the last break hadn’t been fixable and she’d been using a leaky tea pot for almost three years saying she couldn’t find another one she liked as much. But I knew how to get a teapot she’d like even better!

We let the girls choose a colour each and bought two pits of ceramic paint, and headed home to make a mess! The girls had a great time painting the teapot and cups, especially Izzy. Although their painting skills leave a little to be desired and they sort of look like someone has had a bad accident all over the teapot Mum thinks they are the best ever! Certainly no one else will ever have a tea pot and matching cups quite like these!
