Life on the farm….

June 12, 2006

Finally I got a photo of THE TRACTOR!

It is a pity I didn’t manage to take a photo of it when we first got it a few months ago, then you’d be able to actually see in this photo the hours and hours of work that have gone into making it look this good! It wasn’t always shiny red, in fact it was sort of holey and rusty! ‘The boys’ have had a lovely time working on it… spending hours in the shed with the pot belly going trying to get the paint dry and still more hours trying to figure out how to get the old tires off and the new ones on. It has been hours and hours of fun… and peace and quiet for me! he he he

In other ‘farm’ news…. four eggs today! Woohooo!

Finally after months and months of trying to feed the chooks special food and trying not to let the girls harass them too much, they are starting to lay on a semi regular basis. We started with one egg every other day, then sometimes two… then with new food we had been getting three and now a record four eggs today! And this is in the off season! So all is looking good for loads of eggs come spring, plus the possibility of more chooks since Red the Rooster should have been named Randy!

We also have some fruit trees on the way – a locut, black mulberry, strawberry guava and a chestnut tree. As well as some potatoes and more strawberries. Now I just have to brave the freezing weather to weed the new bed for the strawberries before they arrive! brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

LOL Kate, you’re making me start to miss our old tractor… the amount of time spend on that :0! The photo looks wonderful (so do the ones of the kids in the previous post), and great to hear about the eggs.

Watch out Kate, from one farm gal to another :) we started out with 4 Silky Bantams and we now have about 34 ROFL – 7 more hatched out this morning, they are so cute and irresistible but Ralph the randy Rooster had to go, unfortunately we now have `son of Ralph’ woe is me
