The story of an egg.

There was once a little girl who was almost three. She had grown a little in the past months and gotten a lot smarter. She liked to cook and one day while her Mamma was busy elsewhere she told her sister (who was also almost three) that she was going to make her an egg for ‘munch’ (ie, lunch).

She went quietly into the kitchen, opened the fridge and standing on her very tippy toes reach up to take a fresh brown egg from the top of the door compartment. She carried the egg over to the couch (which was denuded of cushions as this was the way she liked it). She was very careful as her friend Princess Audrey had told her that you have to be careful with eggs or they will break.

She got out a small plate from her toy sink and placed it on the couch. She carefully picked up the egg and wacked on the side of the plate, just like Mamma does. The egg broke and oozed out between her fingers onto the plate. Some of it went onto the couch so she tried to pick it up and put it back on the plate. It felt funny on her hands. The yolk broke and she swirled her fingers through the lovely yellow slime painting it across the couch and up her arms. She was having fun.

Then her sister told her Mamma that she was making eggs for lunch. The little girl went to show her Mamma her lovely yellow hands. Her Mamma didn’t think they were quite so lovely and asked her what she had on them…. she explained that it was egg… from the fridge.

Her Mamma got cross and made her sit on the floor and ‘not touch anything!’ while she cleaned the egg off her hands and then off the couch. Her Mamma told her she should not take eggs from the fridge that they were for eating and she should ask her Mamma if she wanted an egg. Then she and her sister and her Mamma and her Dad all went out to buy another childproof lock for the fridge….. but this little girl is sure it won’t take her long to figure out how to open that one too.
