Meet Your Party Host.

We kicked off The Ultimate Blog Party ‘08 last night here at Picklebums with a raging dance party and a little bit of gratefulness. Now that Five Minutes for Mum is back up with the lure of a Mr Linky with 337 links (now that just makes my Grateful Friday Linky look so sad!) I thought I should write a more official party post and introduce myself to all those new people who are going to come surfing by on the linky wave (I hope!)
For all of you who already know me and don’t need to read the details, feel free to just follow all the little green links to go back and read some fun and fascinating old posts, or just go back to the ace video of my kids rocking it out from yesterday’s post, that is sure to make you smile! (I wonder how many times I can link to that post in this one?) For those of you who are new here, this is me in a nutshell!
I am the Picklebum Mamma, though most people just call me Kate. Yes, Kate is short for something, but it’s not short for Katherine and no, I am not going to tell you what it is short for as I am not all that fond of my full name and seriously, I am just Kate! I live in ‘kind of rural’ Victoria, Australia. We have a small ‘farm’ just outside of Melbourne, ten acres, where we grow a lot of weeds and a few children. I am married to the Baldy boy - it’s been almost 8 years of tortur… ahem.. I mean wedded bliss. We have three wild children or ‘picklebums’ as we like to call them- the Twinadoes and Muski the Monster.
The Twinaodes, in case you can’t guess from the nickname, are twins. Identical twin girls, who’s egg split rather late in the scheme of things and consequently they are about as identical as you can without being conjoined twins. They were born at 29 weeks gestation after complications with severe Twin to Twin Transfusion syndrome and we are very lucky to have them! They are four now and have conveniently decided to help the world tell them apart by knocking out Zoe’s front teeth. They love to dance and draw and paint and drive me crazy again and again and again and again.
Muski the Monster, so named by his sisters before he was born, is 8 months old now. He is ‘the child who never sleeps‘. That is probably a little bit of an exaggeration, but it sounds good so I am sticking with it (and probably perpetuating my own nightmare I know.. LOA is biting me on the bum!). He likes to commando crawl, test out his new teeth on my toes, eat paper and surprise me.
Since we live in the land of brown paddocks (fields to those of you not up on Aussie-speak) and blue skies (well most of the time) we like to play at being a little bit self sufficient and environmentally friendly. We have a giant veggie garden (which is most often more weeds than veggies I am ashamed to say) the beginnings of an orchard a geriatric tractor, and big dreams. While we daydream about living the simple life I am learning to cook from scratch, parenting with a bit of a hippy-la-la persuasion, trying to organise my life and be a better home-maker, dabbling in digital scrapbooking and graphic design and trying not to go insane in the process.
I blog anything and everything… I guess with a focus on parenting stories (you know you gotta laugh or you cry) and day to day life on the Pickle Farm (no we don’t actually grow pickles). In a previous life (ie before I had kids) I was a preschool teacher, so every now and then I dust off that part of my brain and write a post about fun activities you can do with your kids. Hopefully there will be more of those useful kind of posts soon, so do feel free to pop by and visit us again.
I shall be partying on for the next few days around here. I have plans for a post about easy activities for a kid’s party, maybe even one about easy party decorations to make (told you I would try and be useful). Of course there will always be photos of my very gorgeous children and stories about them doing crazy things…. so make sure you come back and say hello. Please leave me a comment (gosh I am so pathetic!) or you know, why not go all our and subscribe to my feed so you never miss a word of my incredibly witty banter…. or just click on through quietly wondering what on earth is wrong with this strange person who calls her children ‘Picklebums’.

Hi Kate!
So glad I finally made it over here to visit! Your little picklebums are just precious! And I was just wondering, wouldn’t it have been less painful for Zoe to just wear her hair differently? Pretty drastic knocking out the teeth!

Doesn’t motherhood stretch a person? Some days I feel like my elastic is just wore out…
