So it is April and we are already seven days in. How did that happen? I am sure we skipped a week or two in March somewhere!?!? We are already one quarter of the way through 2008 and I am not sure I am making much headway in the organisation stakes. Let’s re-cap shall we??
De-cluttering
Clutter seems to be a never ending battle in this house. We’ve given away bags and bags to the local op shop and chucked stuff too as well as trying to find better homes for the stuff we want to keep, but it still gets out of hand again and again. No matter how much we get rid of more seems to come in. Am I doing something to attract so much ‘stuff’ in my life? Perhaps it has something to do with the fact that I worry about getting rid of stuff in case I decide I need it later, because I loathe to spend money on something we had but got rid of…. Lets just mark this one ‘work in progress’ shall we?
Laundry
I have my good weeks but in general I have been failing pretty miserably at this one.
I have been half converted to the peg loving ways of not leaving them on the line, but I have developed my own little system (yes how nerdy I have a laundry hanging system) where I leave a line with pegs on it for all the little things like socks and undies – I find it quicker that way. Now if I could only get to the bottom of that damned basket, just once!
Household Folder
Well I have the folder. I have the plastic pockets. I even have a couple of dividers but that is about as far as I have gotten with that one.
Thanks to everyone who left great comments on that post and all the great links too. Here are a few of my favourites -
Organised Home.com thanks to Dee
Lizzie’s home has her own great posts on this subject as well as her own list of printables plus a few great links – Donna Young Printables and Resources, Household Notebook and chart jungle.
This site, Keeping the Home (also thanks to Lizzie) is like the ‘queen’ of household binders but best of all it has a list of links to other’s so if you are like me you can have a look and see how incredibly organised other people are and how much you either long to be like that or secretly smile because you are pleased not to be so anal! I think I fall somewhere in between
Inspired by Planning Queen over at Planning with Kids, I set myself some goals for March – but lets not go there shall we? Lest I crawl into a dark hole of despair over my lack of actually achieving anything and never come out. I did in fact achieve some things in March, just not as much or exactly what I had hoped. April is a new month though so lets start a fresh and see what happens – even though we are already a week in and the last week of April won’t actually be good for anything remotely goal oriented… still lets not let a small thing like dates stop us now!
The Twinadoes go back to kinder tomorrow (pupil free day today, lucky teachers) for the start of term two. My goal is to work on organising our kinder life – getting out the door with as little stress as possible, keeping on top of all the little things that kinder brings, like snacks and special days etc.
I am going to work on my household folder (still trying to decide on a very cool and funky name) which will include putting together a master shopping list, so I will let you know how I do on that one.
I might also take a look at menu planning. Since the weather has changed and the summer veggies are over I probably need to take a look at our dinner options and give all that a revamp.
I’ll still work on the never ending laundry, I just won’t bore you with more posts about it. I will also still slog away at de-cluttering and general organisation… slow and steady wins the race right? It doesn’t matter if I take one step forward and three steps back on occasion does it?
Anyone else got some great April Organisation goals you’d like to share? Let me know in the comments, that way I can check up on you and either be so envious and ashamed that you actually manage to achieve your goals or happily commiserate with you and help you think up really great reasons why you don’t!

I found your blog on google and read a few of your other posts. I just added you to my Google News Reader. Keep up the good work. Look forward to reading more from you in the future.

You could call it Command Central. Or Mama’s Big Black Book (presuming, of course, that it is black). Or…
…okay, I’m drawing a blank. But thanks for the links! (Just as an aside, you mispelt ‘laundry’…sorry, couldn’t help it)
I am SPECTACULARLY disorganised this month. I’m not even going to try to follow along with any kind of decluttering plan. Just aint gonna work! I have page after page of blogging ‘to dos’ to get ta-done…sigh.
Cheers,
Lizzie
I am just in the process of writing up my monthly review post and I have missed a couple of March Goals by a long shot. I think someone stole a week or two while I wasn’t looking.
My key organising goal for April is going to be to create for myself (wait for it because it is massively nerdy) what the organised ones call a command centre!
Thanks for the link as well! PQ
I’m still in denial about this whole ‘being 2008′ thing. Since when did that happen?
I maintain I’m just living in the moment….
But I really should get organised.
Thanks for the inspiration!
Ah well Kate when the kids were small I made the hanging of washing interesting by creating aesthetic combinations on the line – and matching the colour of the pegs to the article of clothing. How nerdy is that?
Worse still the habit has persisted and I still do it although I now hang my clothes in one section and Sarah’s in another to make separating them easier when taking them off the line.
Oh, I should post about how disorganised I am, Kate, and that would make you feel better. I am so keen to get my act together and have a household folder and a command centre and do a menu plan and a master shopping list and organise moving back to Australia and….I feel tired just thinking about it.
