If you were a teenage girl when I was a teenage girl then I am pretty sure you will recognise the quote that is the title of this post…

“I carried a watermelon????”
As said by Baby in Dirty Dancing when she can’t believe she said something so stupid the first time she was introduced to the very sexy dancing instructor played by Patrick Swayze.

That line could easily be the story of my life.

As a teenager I did it often - replayed all the stupid things I had said over and over in total disbelief that I could have been so un-cool. I am not a teenager any more (I am sure you are surprised to read that!) but I still find myself replaying conversations in my head, wondering how ‘un-cool’ I sounded to those around me.

I can’t believe I said that!!!! Did I embarrass myself and not even realise it at the time? Did what I said come across the way I meant it to? Did everyone think I was just a total moron for even opening my mouth at all?

Surely I am not alone here? Am I the only one who often finds herself thinking “I carried a watermelon??????”

Haha love that move used to do the dances etc as well. Nope your not alone at all I think I have carried many watermelons in my time but hey que sera sera life is too short to worry about them and not look at yourself and laugh.

You’re not alone. I constantly find myself saying uncool things! I’m over worrying what other people think now, and I’m usually too busy laughing at myself to notice!

*puts hand up* I’m with you too…lol Although when I say uncool things, my kids are quick to tell me in case I didn’t realise it myself…lol

Oh yeah, I’m a watermelon-carrier from way back!

I replay moments and meetings ALL the time, and I often find myself getting really paranoid about what people might be thinking of me. I am gradually getting better about it and becoming more comfortable with my daggy weird self. :)

We were obviously teenage girls at the same time - I got that movie reference immediately! And yes, I torture myself too by replaying the stupid things I hsve said - even years down the track!

I didn’t get the reference - but then, I wasn’t paying so much attention to the dialogue as to ***sigh*** Patrick Swayze and that singlet…

Sorry - what were we talking about? How I still cringe at things I did or said over 2 decades ago? Um, yes. And leaving comments on blogs just adds to the angst…
