Shells…

January 10, 2009

The Twinadoes LOVE shells.

We’ve headed off on a number of beach trips with the hope of collecting some shells, only to find VERY slim pickings every where we go. While doing the Camping Christmas thing we hoped to find shells… but the only shells we saw were under water and full of hermit crabs, barely a broken scrap of shell washed up on the sand.

We want to make wind chimes and necklaces and shell gardens and sort shells like the gorgeous Maya Made.

What has happened to all the shells??

Does anyone know of a beach with lots of shells within a reasonable distance of Melbourne?

oh that’s disapointing.

I know it’s not the same as discovering them for yourself, but you can sometimes buy bags from the $2 shops.

What has happened to all the shells? I often wondered about this myself…either they’ve all been taken – or something climate related has possibly lessened the number of shelly critters?

There are a dearth here also – although at a beach further North where turtles are protected, there are many… Is there a link? I don’t know.

One hundred years ago when I was a kid, there were always heaps of shells at The Bluff at Barwon Heads. I still have a large bag I collected there – perhaps we will have to get all Mayamade as well??
