Hatchling!!

We have a baby!

A baby chick that is!

There was much excitement when The Baldy Boy came in from feeding the chooks at lunch time today and announced that Cupcake had a chick! Of course we all raced out the back to take a look for ourselves but it took a bribe of chick crumbles before Cupcake let her first born out into the open for us all to oooh and ahh over.

So cute… looking a lot like her Mamma at this stage.

Judging from the fluffiness I am guessing Chickster (temporary name until we find out if she is a she or dinner) probably hatched yesterday – in the gale force winds, side ways rain and sleet. It would only be one of our chooks who would decide to hatch chicks on such a freezing and horrible day!

Chickster is from Cupcakes one and only egg… she still has four other eggs under her from some of our other hens and still seems to be sitting tight but the other eggs are at least a week behind so she might give up before they hatch… fingers crossed.

It will be interesting to watch Chickster grow since her Mama Cupcake is a tiny little bantam chook and her Daddy is a HUGE black Barnevelder rooster! And yes we are referring to her as ‘she’ until such time as we know different… positive thinking and all of that.

How exciting! And such a cute pic of the chick too. Hope she’s a she! (I once had a little one called Polly who turned out to be a rooster…)

Aw… what a cutie! Positive thinking for you that she’s a she! Now I’m all clucky again, horrid pun aside! LOL

awwwwww how cute!! and how great HER egg hatched first!!!!

very very VERY cute!!!

oh that chick is adorable. We saw chicks hatching at the Easter show but no where near as cute.

Rofl at “she or dinner”… If she is a she, I suggest you call her Towga – pronounce Toga (the one who got away)…

Alternatively, you could simply call her Lucky, hehehehe…

how awesome.. that is so very rad and soo exciting. :)
yay for a chick and maybe possible dinner lol

That’s what her Daddy looked like when he hatched. So this will be interesting.
