Did that post title scare you just a little?
Every year I say I am going to be organised for Christmas. I’m going to avoid the last minute craziness. I’m going to make or buy simple, inexpensive gifts. I am going to get a handle on christmas so that I can actually enjoy some of the festivities leading up to the day.
I say that every year. This year is no different.
Sadly though… what I say.. and what I do… don’t always turn out the same. But I figure even if I only do half of what I say then it’s still better than nothing right?? So Christmas… here I come!
I’ve even made some progress…. I’ve started a list! woot!
I’ve begun writing a gift list and I know what we’d like to get or make for most people on that list. To make it easier on the making side of things I’ve divided the group into three categories and we are giving the same general gift (with a few personal touches added) to each group – families/households, individual adults and kids.
I can’t tell you what each group is getting – they all read my blog, it would kill the surprise…. but I can drop a few hints. This year we are all about technology. We are going to use technology to help us make gifts and we are giving a little bit of technology to some people…. curiouser and curiouser
So now that we’ve decided what we want to make and what extra bits and pieces we want to buy I really have to get on and get started! Our biggest gift project is going to take a while to put together so we need to start doing little bits and pieces now.
I also need to start shopping now… I loathe all the craziness at the shops around Christmas and I still have one girl who is petrified of any santa bigger than a cat so that really should motivate me to get organised.
I need to buy a new printer (anyone got any recommendation for home inkjet photo printers – don’t need multi function just decent photo printing capabilities), I need to check out ecotoys and make an order and I need to think about what we will get the kids this year.
Oh and Christmas cards… I always leave ours till the last minute and I really should stop doing that!!
And teacher presents… what on earth do you get teachers?
So much to do… so little time.

You just knocked six months off my life… oh wait, that would put me past Christmas. So yay for you.
Seriously though I have more birthdays to get through first.
You scare me!
I have plans for a post on what NOT to buy teachers for Christmas, my top two NOTS are chocolate and bath products!
Instead, a pair of movie tickets or a nice little album, pencil case or photo frame. Or a nice set of handmade or hand chosen xmas ornaments is always a nice change.

stop it please. i’m not ready. no no no. im exactly the same EVERY YEAR. this year we are breaking out and going on holidays for christmas, its going to be BLISS!!
teachers..I knit them delicious scarves!!!!!
 I’m exactly the same! Each year I plan what I’m going to buy and make for everyone and then Christmas rolls around and I make a mad dash to the shops and no one gets what I planned to give.
I can’t believe you just said the C word. In August. *Shudder*
Good luck though…
I know teachers must get sick of cheap scented things…but I did actually buy a bunch of beautiful soaps at the bendigo wool show in july with teachers in mind. I plan to crochet or knit a washcloth to go with.
Or I might just make shortbread :P.
I actually have the big boys lego for Chrissy up in the cupboard, but of course every day he tells me about a set he REALLY wants and it’s not the one I bought! Not sure if I will exchange it or not…waiting until closer to the time.
Stop, you are scaring me! I have the kiddo’s major present stashed away, and this year we have decided to just go with books for all the little people.
Teachers… some years I have just gotten lucky and picked up a snippet of info during the year that is helpful, like “oh I love this particular range from the body shop” or “I love that brand of coffee”… stuff like that makes it easy to give something that you know they will actually like.
Failing that I go for either a gift card to a coffee shop/book shop/movie money/sporting goods shop etc or the old standby of home baked goodies and one quality christmas decoration.
LOL – I’ve been meaning to do a very similar post, but was worried I would freak people out!!!
For the first time, I’ve actually got my fruit mince soaking, and ready to make pudding and Christmas Cake… it’s very strange to have the house smelling like Christmas!
I am so on your wavelength I started thinking about Christmas today! I am so glad I am not the only one. Lets both be organised this year. Please keep updating on your Christmas plans so I stay motivated…

hmmm.. technology to help make gifts? sounds like an e-card on the way hehehe
I’m ignoring x-mas. In total denial.
More in denial that I’ll have a probably 6-week-old then. Eeps!
Never mind the minor matter of gifts and cards, which relo parties are you planning to attend and which ones will “unfortunately” be missed
I want the raining deers pleeeese.
As a teacher of 18+ years experience could I say go with the “consumable” Christmas goodies? The best pressies I’ve received over the years are homemade goodies because I certainly don’t have time to cook when I’m working full time. What I have done for the boys’ teachers and teacher aides in the past few years is movie passes and $5 vouchers for Gloria Jeans and they have been very well received. Teachers do not need another coffee mug!
