We Play – More Sorting.

June 8, 2010

Sorting is big in our house at the moment. The sorting tray from a few weeks back is still getting lots of use but the almost three year old is forever leaving me little lines of sorted goodness all around our house…

Cars, duplo, animals, wooden blocks, gum nuts, threading reels… all are good to categorise and sort.

Today I put his new found sorting skills to good use… and left him to sort the clean cutlery into the draw. He thought this was fabulous! So did I!

If I wasn’t scared off touching the draining dishes after my husband washed them I would share this activity in my house, but right now even I fear for hat I ill break or how many fingers I will lose if I go there.

So instead, we have sorted buttons and made chains with them today. When we weren’t arguing over who was naughty and a poo poo. LOL

A loves sorting too! He has been putting our dishes and cutlery away for a year now (with hardly any breakages!) I even let him do the steak knives now, and he is so super careful it is cute to see how much he realises it is a “responsibility” LOL! (this is from the dishwasher).

This is great! Ellie loves putting the cutlery away – which is awesome because I HATE it!

Anything that gets help with the dishes is brilliant :)

We love sorting with our button collection, great for fine motor skills too.

I’ve been wondering when my son will want to sort the cutlery – he likes to get in there to get his own spoons/forks out, but I don’t think he’s realized he can put them in. I think I will suggest it this week :)

We love sorting too. My toddler helped sort all our ingredients for dinner into little bowls this afternoon.

Red capsicum in one, mushrooms in another, chopped carrots in the next….looked quite pretty by the end and kept him very happy while I prepared dinner
