Nicked Names.

September 2, 2010

We called the baby ‘Number 4′ before he was born.
Then he became known as ‘Quatro’ while the world waited for us to decide on a ‘real name’, but now that he has one, he is rarely if ever actually called Noah!

nick named Quatro

We call him “No No” or “Noey” and even “Nobody”.
Some times he gets “No-bo” or “Noob” or “Noo-bi-do”.
A friend’s little girl calls him “Baby No Name”, which I am quite taken by.

Yes…. we are attempting to scar our child for life with his many terrible nick names. But it’s ok…because we are scarring all our kids equally when it comes to nick names.

Morgan was named ‘Muski’ by the girls when they were waiting for him to be born and iot has totally stuck. We took a long time to name him too and while the world waited, the girls added to his nick name with loads of variations until he became known as …
“Morgan Muski Butterfly Marshmallow Poop Face”

nick named muski

Of course we also shorten his name… to ‘Morgues’.
Yep, his nick name means the building where they store dead people.
Now that’s gonna scar!

And the girls?

nicke named Bizzy

Izzy’s name is really Isabella but no one ever callas her that.
She gets called “Bizzy” or often just “B” which seems to confuse people because of course Izzy starts with an I not a B, but it makes total sense to us.
Sometimes she gets call “zipper” and quite often “feral Sheryl”

nick named goober

Zoe gets “zoob” or “Zobo” or “Zoo-bum”, because in true Aussie style, if your name is already short then we’ll lengthen it instead!
And a derivative of that? “Goober”…. lovely.

And then there are the multi use nick names…. because I often can’t remember which child I gave which name to, so it’s easier just to call them all…

Chooky Bum, or just Chook
Snookie La
Bood, or Boodie
Stinky
Oliver Boliver Butt (A prize for those who know which Dr Suess story this is from)
Pickle Knickers (say it out loud it makes your lips feel happy)
and of course.. Picklebum!

Surely I am not the only one who is scarring their children with terrible nick names. Please share and make me feel better!

Heidi is Heidi Lou, or chicken little, or Fluffy or Biscuit.

We were quite pleased with ourselves for choosing Amy, a name which is quite hard to shorten however a couple of her friends already call her Ames! I call her Precious, Baba (gotta stop this one) or Sweetheart, but mostly just Amy. With our second we have made up for the lack of nicknames. Stella is called Lala, Booboo, Stellabella, Bellabooboo, Bubsy, Bubalicious and then all the names I call her sister because I am always mixing them up!

I love the ways Australians do that to names- Scots do it too. You can’t be called Steve without someone calling you Stevo!

My son is called Louis but invariably gets called Loubert, Louiemungo, Dr Cheeseman or Indy.

My daughter Eve gets called Evo if were being nice and, you guessed it, Evil if we’re not.

Very cute post :-)

Freya has always been known as “blossom” and it suits. She answers to it more than her actual name. Beren is B, or Mr B, or Beren Bear :-)

Maya gets called ‘diddle’ coz she was just a tiny little diddle of a thing when born, its stuck.

And Ava gets fatty coz clearly being 100g bigger at 1600g when born warrants that..

Jack = Jackeroo, JackyMac, Jacka mcCracka
Em = Emmyloula, Rubyloula, Ruby, and lots of other derivative of those. And Princess. Of course.
Tom = Tombola, Tomblyboo, Booger Mashooger, Boo, Buggy,

So many more, I often think I should write them all down because they change so often :)

Our son is officially Lachlan Thomas. A child crime would need to be committed before I use that tho! Lochs is common, lochie is also often used. Sweet boy, snooks, lochie t, baby bear, dude, bub – stupid really given he is nearly seven. The one that amuses me the most is ‘the chook’ . We don’t call him the chook. We talk about the chook. So named because we put our newborn bundle into one of those white wonder suits and he looked like a frozen chook from the supermarket. We cracked up laughing and referred to him as the chook. To this day we use it to talk about him, only ever about him, never to him. Eg. Can you get the chook from school. One assumes one day we will attend the chokes wedding.. I better like the bride .. Otherwise I might just have to say.. Lachlan Thomas.

Currently pregnant with my fourth (therefore a keen follower – ok lurker!), for the life of me couldn’t spit out my second daughter’s name and called her “Whatsyourface” she loves it and asked me to call her it all the time.
My Dad used to call my sister “Dogsbody”

I love feral Sheryl. In utero, Lil was Nugget. When we discovered that she was a girl, she became Nugette. Now she’s Bubba, and sometimes Missy Mae.

HAHA. It’s so funny how nic names come about! My sister couldn’t pronounce Kimberly so she called me Gig E..then it turned to GEEG…then it turned to GEEK. So awesome when you’re coming home from school and your little sister is yelling out HI GEEK!!

long time, no check in. Congrats on No. 4!

My daughter is officially Eloise. However, she can be Elle, Ellie (spelt Eli actually and is her usual name), Moo, Sweet Pea, Bub, Bubba, Moo Face, Pea (which she hates), Babe, Weeze (sometimes, but not often), E, Baby Girl and sometimes she’s actually Eloise (especially if she’s being told off, in which case, I become Mummaweeze).

She responds to Lulu, Noodle and Poppet more than her actual name! :) God help the next one :)

Too cute! And I love the pics. Have you read the book, Mommy Doesn’t Know My Name? by Suzanne Williams. It’s a funny little children’s book about a little girl who thinks her mom doesn’t know her name because she calls her some many nicknames. I think it would be fitting!
