I don’t know about you, but my kids are eating out of house and home these holidays. Every five minutes I hear “I’m hungry”…. “what can I eat?”…”but I’m STARVING!”. I can’t keep the fruit bowl full for more than a day and I seem to be making cakes of biscuits every day at the moment. They’ve eaten enough salad to sink a ship and we are always out of bread… and my kids don’t even eat sandwiches!
What they do eat it is dip.
Home made bread and dip are always on their wish list. At the moment their current dip obsession is Olive dip. They can eat an entire tub in one sitting!
As I was throwing out the empty container yesterday I had a quick squizz at the ingredients. Olives, mayo and a preservative…. that’s it. That’s what I pay nearly $5 a tub for? Not any more!
Today we made our own olive dip and it’s so darn easy!
Easy Pickle Farm Olive Dip.
1 cup of olives (any kind you like – ours were Aldi stuffed olives)
2 table spoons of mayonnaise (more or less to taste)
If you like – a little bit of minced garlic and any kind of green herb to sprinkle on the top.
Chop up the olives as finely or as roughly as you like. You could even pop them in the food processor, but they are easy to cut (the big girls cut them into small pieces and then I diced them up finely) and our food processor is a bugger to clean. Dump the olives into a bowl, add the mayo and some garlic and stir. Sprinkle with herbs so it looks a little less like vomit when you photograph it for you blog… or not!
How is that for easy?
Make some home made foccacia bread and you’ve got lunch for a lot less than $5!
I’ve got plans to try some other home made dips too, so watch this space for more easy dip recipes.
What do you feed your hungry hoards for lunch during the holidays?

I like the sounds of this dip. Super easy!
I did a maccas run for lunch today. I know, I know…
I did it based on the premise that both Lil and I needed to get out of the house, and that she’d fall asleep in the car on the way home. We did, and she did.
At least I didn’t feed any of it to her I spose!
Next time I will make dip. Or buy more ham when I do the groceries.
Dips are awesome! Unfortunately one miss in my house has developed a taste for only store bought. GRRR. I shouldn’t complain though…she was the only one who liked the raw vegan choc balls I made yesterday :).

How’s that for appetising? You should be a food writer. ;-) It’s a good thing I REALLY love olives and Mstr7 has just given away his allergy to egg and wants to eat everything in the house.
Thanks for sharing this.
Bring on the dip recipes! My daugter seems to only eat vegetables these days if she can dip them in something.
I’ll definately give the olive dip a go. I love that it only has two ingredients. Thanks :-)
I love love love olive dip. Gosh it is delicious. Thanks so much for the idea of whizzing olives and mayo together – brilliant! We also love dips, roasted capsicum dip is a favourite in our house, we all love it so much. mmmmm…. now I feel like a dip!
Perfect timing for a yummy recipe – I popped a link to it on my post tonight as I didn’t have time to do a recipe of my own (like I usually do on a monday).
But the mooshy bunnies are all finished and ready to go to qld (phew!).
