Do your kids chop and change their minds about what they will and won’t eat in their school lunches??
My girls will happily eat fruit slice every day for a month, and then suddenly, one day they bring it home untouched declaring that they don’t like it, it’s disgusting and if I ever dare put it in their lunch again their eyes will roll out of their heads in frustration.
What’s with that?
I try hard not to loose my mind and just look for something else to bake to fill up their bottomless pit stomachs and whinging mouths!
This week I tried out a new chocolate chip cookie recipe. Reported to be ‘the fluffiest, chewiest, most amazing chocolate chip cookies ever’ according to Apple a Day blog where I first found the recipe, and she’s not wrong. These are delish and only crumbs came home from school!
Here is my slightly modified recipe for Big Fat Chocolate Chip Cookies.
185 grams of softened butter
3/4 of a cup of brown sugar
1/4 of a cup of sugar
1 egg
1 tsp. vanilla extract
2 cups of self raising flour
2 tsp corn flour
1 cup of chocolate chips
Pre-heat your oven to 180 degrees. Cream butter and sugar, then add the egg and vanilla and mix well. Fold in flour and corn flour and then stir through the chocolate chips.
Place table spoons (or bigger!) of dough on well greased trays and cook for 7-10 minutes, no longer!
These cookies are forgiving when it comes to the mixture (I left out the corn flour by mistake first time and they still came out ok) but they are not forgiving when it comes to cooking. Do not over cook, ten minutes is enough! The cookies will not brown, they stay very blonde. When you see them starting to go slightly brown around the edges, take them out, or they will be crumbly not chewy.
Win a 4 My Earth Lunch Wrap Pack
This Competition is now closed and the winner has been notified.
I have a fabulous new advertiser here at picklebums – 4 My Earth. They sell a range of unique products all aimed at reducing out impact on the environment.
Rebecca from 4 My Earth sent me a pack of their cool lunch wraps to try out, the cookies in the photo above are packed in a snack pocket from the range and we’ve been using the other wraps and pocket for a few weeks now and love them. The lunch wraps are machine washable and are actually really easy to use. I also love that they have a clear and easy spot to name them!
For those at schools who require ‘rubbish free lunches’ these would be awesome! We are almost rubbish free just because I hate throwing money in the bin and with these wraps we’ve managed to get rid of the plastic wrapped bread rolls as well. These would also be good for general kitchen use, I read a tip on the website about using a wrap instead of cling wrap for dough which is just brilliant, it’s such a waste to use cling wrap for the hour pastry dough needs to go in the fridge and then chuck it out!
4 My Earth has one value pack of lunch wraps to give away. Their value pack includes one of each type of wrap and pocket in various designs (not all the same design as pictured)- a really great way to try them out.
To enter, pop on over to the 4 My Earth website and take a look at their range of products. Leave a comment letting me know what your favourite product is and you’ll go into the draw. The winner will be chosen next Thursday, November 3rd. To enter you must be an Australian resident and must provide a valid email address.

Snack pocket would be my most wanted item I think!! Or maybe the sandwich wrap.
I think they are an amazing idea & one we should all use!!
Sandi :)
I so need the snack pockets for her lunch box. I use paper towel now, a bit embarrassing.
Great giveaway. I have been meaning to try these products for a while. Browsing the website, the exfoliating silk towel caught my eye – that will be on my Christmas list.
We have actually been using these wraps for 2 years now!! I wash them nearly everyday and no signs of wear – they really are brilliant!
4MyEarth® Insulated Lunch bag is the best thing that i liked on their website.great and very innovative idea.
Sandwich wrap for the boy’s lunch.
Ooh I’d go a value set in the skater boy print for my skater boy lol.
These looks great! I’m a tupperchick but am sick of the boxes being lost and never returning… I’m thinking these would make some ace Christmas pressies too!
I love the snack wraps and pockets for lunches. But I also love the produce bags – I hate getting all those little plastic bags!!!
The butterfly value pack looks pretty good. We are rubbish free now as we use a Nude Food Movers lunch box although I have to keep reminding my husband not to use cling wrap.
Love the versatility of these little bags. We use tupperware – so our lunches are pretty much packaging free. However, the fact that these bags can be used to wrap dough, collect loose change (instead of ziplock bags), store pacifiers in addition to wrapping up snacks and sambos has me sold. Great colour range too!
My boys love their choc chip cookies chewy so will give these a go tomorrow. I love those lunch wraps too…..and one can never have too many scarves!
The snack pocket looks great as well as the cars logo sandwich wrap.
My eldest just started kindy and I’m not great at lunches yet! These look fantastic.
Oh these look fantastic. I would def use the snack bags & wraps in either cars or army camo.
My biggest little man is off to school next year and i’m betting he would love the Cars Logo sandwich pocket. So much easier to open than his kinder lunchbox.
I didn’t know they had lunch bags andd sacks, how cute are they? We’ve got the snack pockets – but only two and now with 3 kids there’s arguments over who gets what!!
My little boy is starting kinder next year and would just love the snack pocket wrap with the combis. He would tell me that they are Fillmore from cars. thanks
What a useful nifty product, I would choose the snack pocket. It would be very handy for little treats that only get half eaten when you go out, then when you put the packet in your bag they go everywhere!
Other than the Lunch Wraps which are a fantastic idea to keep my poppet’s food fresh and looking good, I really like the 4My Earth Organic Cotton Scarf’s. I love the bright colours and I think they would feel extra soft against my neck. I will have to try your Chocolate Chip recipe now, they are making me drool…. yummy!
I think the sandwich wrap would be my fav, closely followed by the snack wrap.
Love this idea! Have been eyeing off these for ages, think the snack wraps and pockets are brilliant! : )
I love the bird sandwich wrap & the lunch bags are gorgeous – really like blue3. Think I just solved some Xmas presents!
I love the sandwich wraps… my daughter takes a hard plastic container with her sandwich and is always complaining about the extra room and weight in her bag.
They are all amazing but I like the snack pack best
First off, I am SO going to try those cookies this weekend!
And to the wraps – love the look of the “combie van” sandwich/snack wraps and that would satisfy both my husband (he, as a good German, once owned a VW combie) and my little boy (car! car!). They are such a great idea.
My very favourite choc chip recipe is very vvery similar to this one except for the cornflour…interesting addition. I will give it a try!
I like the sandwich and snack pockets. they look so handy and neat. the kids would love the cute desings and my bag wouldn’t be weighed down with plastic snack containers! I like the words on navy :)
A giveaway that I can enter! I would like to see how these wraps work. The sandwich wrap would be the most used item in our household, although the older three kids already have all their lunch needs provided for between tupperware & decor, so these would be for the almost-toddler when we go out.
I love the idea of the snack pockets, I’m always sending goose trap off to work with a clip seal bag full of nuts or other more naughty snacks… I have this strange feeling I won’t be able to replace the clip seal bags used for breast milk storage though :-)
Our school has just started to implement one rubbish free day a week. So Im investigating stuff like this for the long term, saves money, less plastic. I love the sandwhich pocket, in the butterfly design. My big girl going to school next year will love it.
I love the Combie wrap. I reckon that i could even get my husband to use that one! Super idea, grace
We are in dire need of new drink bottle for Heidi, she has destroyed every bottle we’ve gotten her this year.
I really like this one http://www.4myearth.com.au/store/product_info.php?cPath=13&products_id=38
The snack pockets are fantastic – what a great idea!
definitely a snack pocket or a sandwich wrap! they will be so useful:)
CARS all the way- snack bags and wraps- My Mr 2.5 years old loves his snacks when we are out and about, and the Cars movies have been a huge hit with him! Love the choc chip recipe too!
I love the look of the sandwich wrap; all of the items look fab though! Thanks for the opportunity to win!
My favourite product from 4 My Earth is the sandwich pocket, because it’s so versatile. It doesn’t just hold sandwiches perfectly, but it also holds other foods just as well. With the sandwich pocket, you’re only limited by what you haven’t tried yet!
The sandwich wrap is an awesome and brilliant idea
It makes one use less clingwrap so we can all cheer.
It can be used for example to wrap homemade pasta as well as cheese
We should all use these wraps to help save the planet please.
Hi there,
I love the combi and butterfly range of snack and sandwich wraps and pockets.
Thanks for the choc chip biccy recipe :)
Kind regards,
Imogen
I am loving the wraps with the Combi design at the moment but think that the lunch back are very stylish and even come with a place for an ice block.
My favourite product would be the sandwich wraps. The combie print is so retro cool and with my boy is about to start school soon he is into things like that. I like the idea that the wrap would keep his sandwich fresh and protected from other things in the lunchbox (like a frozen drink!) And I love the idea of being rubbish free and doing our little bit to reduce the waste that we all produce.
My favourite would be the sandwich wrap as this is what I tend to use the most cling wrapping and would save so much plastic if I started using these, they’re great – so inspirational!
I love the lunch sacks, nice bright colours!
I think the snack pocket would be great… although I have two girls so I would have to buy two or they’d be fights! Putting their snacks in these would definitely save on land fill and plastic wrap costs!
What an awesome idea! All of the food wraps look great. The cookies look pretty fine too.
I really like the lunch sacks.
I really try to reduce the amount of waste we have.
For dough have you tried either putting it in an air-tight container or sitting a plate on top of your bowl to act as a lid. I usually do that for the time it sits there.
Great choc chip cookie recipe!
My favourite product is definitely the big sandwich wraps. We go through so much glad wrap here, they would definitely lessen our environmentqal footprint!
