Playing Shop.

I remember the day we visited the girls’ kinder for the first time, just to see what it was like. They had a shop set up in the home corner area and immediately my just turned four year old girls made a beeline for it and stayed playing shop for the whole time we were there.

Now, four years later, nothing has changed. When someone says the magical words ‘let’s play shop’ eyes still light up and little faces still beam… there is just more of them now! And these days ‘playing shop’ is more involved then a just a basket and a few empty boxes!

playing shop money

These days we need to make our own money, and share it out equally between all the shoppers.

We need to make a sign, and don’t forget to add the shop’s web address too.

Then you have to arrange all the goods, find some bags, baskets and trolleys and distract your baby brother somehow… then… then you are ready to play shop!

Oh I love how the shop signs need URLs these days!!!! My little man is not quite to the shop stage yet but I’m sure we’ll get there. I still remembering loving that as a kid, especially playing shops with my grandmother. I always asked for sausages in kilometres rather than kilograms and she loved it.

Oh, I LOVE that the sign has their website address on it…too funny !

My boys love playing “shop” and are constantly adding new aspects to their dramatic play. Recently, they made their own “money”, and even had a notebook to make “receipts” for their customers.

My favorite is when they start talking about things like profit – “I think we bought this toy truck for $3, so we should sell it for $5. Then we will be making $2″ – such smart little entrepreneurs. :-)

Nawww that’s so cute ^_^ Haven’t got to that level of detail yet (bahahaha web address! :D) My kids will use anything with a divider (we don’t have a “shop” setup at our place, they use this lattice thing on the back patio with one person standing on either side of it) and are usually selling ice cream and milkshakes :)

The latest efforts which the husband doesn’t appreciate is building these amazing fortresses on one of the beds using every pillow and blanket in the house. Maybe he doesn’t appreciate the effort as we always have to clean up after which involves a lot of folding large bits of linen ;)
