I am a firm believer in the importance of play.
Play is how children learn, it’s how they learn everything.
Right now Noey is learning so fast I can barely keep up with him. Watching him play is like watching his brain grow right before my eyes.
His vocabulary is increasing at a rate of knots. He will have a go at repeating just about anything he hears, he uses new words all the time, and some of them are even understandable.
Animal sounds are a new found skill. Did you know that a dog sounds much like a steam train in our house? “Wooo-woooooooooooooooo!”
He is also very interested in cause and effect…. “If I do this… what will happen?”
“If I press this button will something happen?”
“If I shove this car, how far will it go?”
“If I throw this block at my brother will he yell at me?”
His imagination is developing more and more and pretend play is becoming much more important in his play.
He wants to play at cooking, at putting the puppy to bed, at feeding the puppy… Often all the things that we still help him do, he wants to help his toys do.
He is learning about himself and interacting with others.
He has learned the power of the word “Mine” and uses it often!
When you are almost two, playing is not just important… it’s essential.
When we got the Fisher Price Puppy Learning Car and Puppy Play House the first thing Noah said was “Mine!”, closely followed by lots of “wooo-woooooooo!”
The big kids were quite taken by the toys too and wanted to find out what every button and flap did, but Noey was quite clear it was his and he would show them how to play with it… and so he did.

oh yay!! my lil boy is at a similar stage (hes 21mths). I laugh every day, he does not say ‘dad’. His dad, to him is “mum-mum” !! I am ‘Mum’ or ‘mumm-eee’ but there is no ‘dad’. Its dead set hilarious -especially when people hear him call out ‘mum-mum’ to my partner!
oh, and according to him, balls go “click” (tongue click) – like getting hit on a bat!

My daughter has some sopeach difficulty with cetain sounds especially f and y would get mixed up. You can imagine my horor when one day we were out and I gave he a bit of food to ty and she yells out “Yuck”, but eplaced the y with and ” F” I kept epeating Yes huny Yuck so eveyone knew what she was saying!
when my little man talks about Star Wars, he always calls it Star bores, doesn’t matter how many times we tell him he always says it, it’s very cute though!
My son has two best friends. Cameron and Noah. My son loves our mower and mowing with daddy in general. The funny thing is that poor Noah has been rechristened Mower as my son Chase doesn’t understand the difference. ‘Mummy can we visit Mower please? ‘ so cute :)
My toddler kept saying in a lift butt butt. It took as a while to work out he meant button. He wanted to push the lift buttons. ;)
Whenever my toddler wants me to pick her up because she is upset she says “Mumma I want to HOLD you” – cute most of the time not so much when she is being a super clingy mumma’s girl ;)
Our 15month old babbles a lot but the ONLY clear word he says is our dog’s name Chazi. He adores her and follows her around the house. When we get home he walks in the house and it’s “Chazeeeeee”. No Mum or Dad or his older brother’s names but he knows how to call his best mate.
My bub is yet to do anything really exciting, but my little nephew cracks me up calling Darth Vader ‘DARK VADER’!
Our eldest has just learned what breed our dog is. Yes he is a Rock-wheeler!!!
My little grand-daughter absolutely loves our dogs.
When she visits, she toddles over to the back door, points, pokes her tongue in and out and goes “Hu hu hu” like a dog panting.
We get the message!
My niece nearly screams the house down when we offer her some sticky date pudding. She cries out to everyone ‘I’m not eating sticky tape pudding’.
A bit tricky for us as my boy isn’t really verbal yet. My boy is 21 months and he received jungle animals for his first birthday. He has only recently started making animal noises but he must have been paying attention. I used to tell him the giraffes nibble at the trees and pretend to nibble at the hair behind his ears. Now whenever he sees a giraffe he uses his hand to “nibble” his ear!
Toddler daughter to her single-parent mother, “You can never have too many shoes or dresses.”
We are very big on using our manners in our house & Master 3 occasionally needs prompting. If you ask him, “What do you say”? he responds with, “Please my manners” which gives us a giggle every time but at least we know he is learning them!
My twins have me in stictches some days and really remind me that they are always listening to Mummy and taking so many things in! They are 23 months now and one loves to go around saying ‘nedder mine’ for ‘never mind’ whenever something goes wrong or she breaks something….i didn’t realise i said it so often!
The other has started doing a large sigh and clicking her tongue when i get upset….i didn’t realise i sigh so much either. Whoops on both accounts but have learnt to laugh at them and myself!!!
My youngest 4 sings ‘Don’t worry, be happy’ when he is getting around the house all happy, it always brings a big smile to my face :)
everything is repeated with my 2 year old so his favourite saying at the moment is “Bloody Hell” :-/
My son and I love singing songs together (that’s how we came across your blog – I was looking for props to go with some songs we sing). One song we sing is about bugs and there’s a line from the song that goes “I might be sneaky.” Now my two year old runs around saying, “I sneaky!” A very apt description :) Thanks.
My little guy, (about 20 months) loves to tell the dog to sit. With his little lisp though it sounds like he has an extra letter in there. So he looks at the dog and says s_it, s_it, s_it, over and over. The dog doesn’t seem to understand him though.
My 2 year old has obviously heard me call my husband ‘babe’ so now she calls him ‘daddy babe’ :)
Oooh we’ve got so many cute and interesting little terms in our house with two under three!
‘Fire Truck’ comes out sounding very interesting…
Last week my almost 3yo came out with (to his little sister):
“Be quiet Bella, I cant even hear myself playing!”
Classic.

My two year old niece tells anyone who will listen that she “fluffs quietly” not like her daddy, who fluffs very loudly.
My toddler ALWAYS says “FLYBUYS” when the Coles advertisement comes on TV. I don’t even shop at Coles but my mum (my daughter’s Grandma) does. My daughter also says it in Target and when we walk past Coles and Kmart! At 22 months, it’s amazing (and scary)how advertising can really speak to kids!
My toddler just says jibber jabber at the moment. He has discovered clapping though, so he claps after anything I say. Round of applause everyone!
Besides repeating the last word of everything we say, “bic, bic, bic means I want music for my 22 month old!
Just spent a magical week with my 17mth granddaughter..she lives in adifferent state..she was calling me Momo…instead of oma..luv it!
It’s not what he says in the day but it’s what he says in the middle of the night whilst he’s asleep that’s funny…….
“No,…..I do it,…….. I need to to do it by myself!”
he’s certainly reliving his toddler day!
