Six for Saturday

1. Going Places
Do you read Sesame Ellis? I am loving Rachel’s ‘A Year of Thursdays’ series where she is enjoying the final year with her twins before they start school by going places and doing things. Her amazing photography is inspiring me to take my kids new places and drag the camera along with me!

I want to take the kids to the Immigration Museum (can’t believe we’ve never been there) and this crafty cafe looks way cool!

2. Scrumptious
We were given 4 loaves of day old bread after a friend’s school had over catered a sausage sizzle. I first thought we’d just feed it to the chooks but it still had a day till the useby date and it was too good to just throw to the hens, so I set about trying to find new and unusual ways to use up loaves of plain white bread. I made bread crumbs and stuffed chickens and we ate toasted sandwiches, and then I found this recipe on pinterestMexican French Toast Rolls. Can you say ‘scrumptious’???

Oh my they were so good! We put cooked apple and rhubarb mixed with a little jam in ours, cause that’s what we had and they were mighty good. They are a little fiddly to make and you need to cook then as you eat them, but if you ever find yourself with four loaves of bread to use up fast, give them a try!

3. Washi Washi
Do you remember my declaration of love for washi tape last week? And the struggle with my inner tight arse over whether I should buy some and if I did would I really use it???

Well it just so happens that the very awesome Red Ted Art (how cool does her new book look?) put together a list just for me – Washi Tape and Craft Ideas. Loads of great and most of them really simple and doable. Ok… now I need to go shopping!

4. More See Through Art
We painted on contact paper this week and had an awesome time! But here’s an even less messy idea for see-through-ey art from Childhood101 – Stained Glass Effect Drawings And one more see-through-ey (it is so too a word) art idea from Danya Banya – Six types of ‘Stained Glass’ Easter Eggs

5. Missed a Day
Did anyone notice that I didn’t blog on Thursday? I was busy flying up to Sydney and back to speak at the Digital Parent’s Conference which was loads of fun, but totally exhausting. So there was no parenting post this week, so I thought I’d share a few of my old parenting posts here, a couple of old favourites…

6. Poetry
I’ll finish with a few inspiring words that I came across at Steady Mom

“Buy or borrow self-improvement books, but don’t read them.
Stack them around your bedroom and use them as places to rest bowls of cookies.

Watch exercise shows on television, but don’t do the exercises.
Practice believing that the benefit lies in imagining yourself doing the exercises.

Don’t power walk. Saunter slowly in the sun, eating chocolate,
and carry a blanket so you can take a nap.”

I love sesameellis Year of Thursdays too, it was the inspiration for our ‘food adventure day’.
Aslo I feel you on the washi tape situation, I love it, but am too cheap to buy any more than the one roll I already own! I think I need to bite the bullet and start a proper collection.
