Setting Up Christmas Play Dough
These Christmas play dough mats are all designed to be open-ended. They offer a starting point to encourage imagination and creativity. They ask open-ended questions to encourage kids to come up with their own ideas rather than simply following instructions.
There are no right or wrong ways to use use them, only creativity, exploration and fun!
So if your child wants to dress Santa in a swimsuit that’s awesome! And if your child’s Christmas tree has a dinosaur at the tippy top, that’s cool too!
You can use these play dough mats with any kind of playdough you like, or use modelling clay (plasticine), or loose parts, or even a dry erase marker.
We used modelling clay with our playdough mats, and we added some loose parts and accessories to go with them.
Here are some ideas of fun extras you can add to your Christmas play dough set up:

- buttons
- beads
- tinsel
- sparkly pipe cleaners
- marbles
- bells
You can laminate these holiday playdough mats, cover then with self adhesive paper, or pop them into a plastic pocket so you can use them again and again.

So, I love these. Perfect to give my 4yo some guidance for his play.
My question though…what do you do with all the clay and sequins and decorations at the end? I struggle by the minute with clean up and organization and it all just ends up as clutter because I don’t know what to DO with the STUFF!! Your ideas are so wonderful, just curious about the “behind the scenes” aspect, cuz I know it’s a constant battle in my house!
