Organise ’08?

That is the exact opposite of our life right now. Instead being all nicely scheduled and organges we are leaping wildly from one commitment to another, trying to cram in all the stuff we need to get done. It’s not horrible, actually it is often quite enjoyable, but it is tiring and I’d be a fraud if I tried to spout on about attempting to be more organised at the moment. I’m holding fast to my lists and not even bothering to try to manage anything else… and yes the laundry is well out of control.

Renovate ’08?

Well that has come to a grinding halt too. We are waiting on architects plans before we can move forward. Even the Baldy Boy’s new shed (which we had hoped would be well finished by now) is way behind schedule because of paper work taking forever. Thankfully we’ve done this sort of thing a few times before and we know that even the best laid plans often don’t come to fruition and schedules get thrown out the window at the drop of a hat, so we are all good. I’ve reassed my time frame and adjusted my thinking to include a winter with only half a house and I think we’ll manage. ‘As long as it happens eventually it’s all good’ is my mantra and repeating that over and over is what my renovations plans consist of right now.

So now all I am left to write about is ‘Contemplate’…. This is what we are doing a lot of right now. Sorting out potential schedules for next year. Seeing if we can fit in everything everyone wants to do without any clashes. Dreaming about a long hot summer and weeks where we don’t have to be anywhere or work to anyone else’s time table, a nice lazy way to ease into the new year. Idly day dreaming about what things I’d like to do once the crazy christmas rush is over – a blog re-design for me, and maybe take on a few new blog design jobs for others, reading (real books as well as blogs), sewing, making a scarecrow, thinking about what I might like to blog about next year.

2009 the year of….. ?

Washing Line ’09? Nah I can see my blog stats dropping at the mere thought of me blogging about how dismal I am at laundry each week.

Sunshine ’09?? Might be good for the summer but once the cooler weather comes back I’d just spend each pining for that sun.

Hmm… maybe I should just leave the idea of a Monday blogging subject all together? But I do so like to have something to inspire me to start off the blogging week. Suggestions anyone?

It seems that November is the time of year for all the new diaries and calendars to come out. I am suddenly over run with calendar ace-ness and wondering what I might get to try and keep us on track for next year.

For the past two years we’ve used a kikki k family calendar which I really quite like, but it’s not perfect. For a start the birthday column is wasted as we rarely write any birthdays in it, and while I love that it has a column for each member of the family, so often one event involves more than one of us and I am yet to find a way to get The Baldy Boy to read more than just what is written under his name! Plus this year’s grey borders are a tad boring… I’d like my calendar to be just a little bit funky!

I came across a link to this lovely diary – Milestone Press’s The Master Plan – The designer diary for parents. It looks to be set out really well, it has lots of the things I’d like to have on a calendar/diary – especially the dinner bit, but it’s a diary. I am not good with diaries. They tend to sit in the bottom of my bag unwritten in until I find myself making a dentist appointment and I still have no idea what days are ok for who. I think I really need something that goes up on the wall, for everyone to see.

Maybe I’ll try the Weekly Planner Pad from Kikki-k. But then it only shows a week, I am not sure that is enough to keep us organised. I am not a fan of the timed slots for each day either and no spot of meals, but I could just pop that on the side I guess. It is cheap enough to try and not to be a huge waste of money if it is a disaster I guess… and I am not sure I can find a better option…

What I really need is something big that I can stick up on the wall. That has big spaces to write in multiple events for each day. I like the idea of a weekly planner with a space for menu planning, but it also needs to have a little calendar for the rest of the month, and maybe the month after too. I don’t need a special space for birthdays, nor timed slots in each day. It needs to be functional, but also a little bit groovy.

Yeah I know… I am picky… I want a lot from my calendar, heck I’ll only be truly happy when the thing screams at me to remember the milk as I run out the door. You know, if I had a wide format printer I’d just design my own – now that would be fun… but I can’t see it working on a little a4 sized sheet.

Anyone got any nifty links to great family planners you’d care to share?

I think it’s safe to assume that if I couldn’t manage to get to the bottom of the laundry basket when life was reasonably sane, then there is little chance that it is going to happen now, mid November when life is totally mental. But (are you really not supposed to start a sentence with ‘but’ because it feels so right sometimes) you know… there is always that glimmer of hope. That wild crazy dream that for a moment.. however fleeting that moment may be, that just for one moment there might not be any dirty washing in my house. I am not sure why I continue to bash my head against the brick wall and strive for this washing nirvana, but I do. I have a feeling that if I ever actually achieved it, seeing the bottom of the laundry basket, that it may be such a momentous occasion that I’d have a heart attack and drop dead on the spot… but hey at least I’d die with no dirty washing in my house!

Arrghh… I think the craziness of this coming week is getting to me already, I am sounding like some housework obsessed crazy woman, when in reality, it’s a good day in this house when everyone has a pair of clean undies to wear… and heck this is not at all what I wanted to write about… how on earth did I get so side tracked?

Ah yes… washing… I’ve been doing some today. Taking advantage of the sunshine and the fact that I won’t need to go pick up the Twinadoes until 4pm (all good vibes to incredibly wonderful kinder mum who invited my girls to play!) I’ve attempted to wash a big back log of clothes and put them away and while I was taking washing off the line, folding and sorting as I went (cause I was being a good house wife today) I came across a clothes storage dilemma and I need some help.

The girls share a bed room, they share a wardrobe and storage unit and more and more often they share clothes. In the past I’ve kept their clothes separate to make it easier to grab and run in the mornings but these days I have little to no say over what they wear and I can never pick who is going to go for which t-shirt. So now I am thinking (yes dangerous I know)… it would make my life easier to stop trying to sort t-shirts and undies in a Zoe pile and an Izzy pile… so maybe I could just chuck them all in together?

I know… really stupid, crazy, ‘who cares’ kind of question…. but seriously… before I go spending hours rearranging things and finding that it doesn’t work and having to spend more hours putting it all back… surely someone out there has some advice for me?

Someone with twins? Or someone with kids who share a room and share clothes????

Is this going to make life easier or harder? Chuck it all in together or keep separating?

I know… I ask the most life altering, important questions don’t I!!??? LOL

I am attempting to stem the backwards slide in the organisation stakes and trying hard to keep on top of the coming weeks of craziness and stay even a little organised right through until Christmas.

I started out vowing that I would be organised early for Christmas this year and yeah, ok…. I know that just saying that I will be organised isn’t going to make it magically happen, which is a bit of a bugger really, but in my defence there has been a few new end of year things added to my plate AND I am much more organised than I was last year when life was a lot less crazy. So I am patting myself on the back already, regardless. A little bit of self encouragement never hurts!

So now the plan is to try to keep my head above water and be organised for all of the end of year things we have planned. Lets see what is on my end of year check list and how on earth am I going to manage it all!?!

The Twinadoes’ Birthday
Eeek it is November already and my girls turn five (yes FIVE!) in less than two weeks! I finally got the invitations out to kinder friends today and will whip off some emails and sms’s to those further away as well. We are trying to keep it simple, with just cake and a play in the park, so please everyone pray that it doesn’t rain here at the end of next week! I also have to make cakes to take to kinder the day before, and I have a meeting to attend for their new kinder that week as well! I think I will be glad when next week is over!

Ballet
On the off chance you haven’t been paying attention to this blog of late, then you might not realise that the girls will be in a whiz bang fancy ballet concert at the start of December. Two dances, two performances and a heck of a lot of extra rehearsals! I am VERY thankful that we don’t have to sew costumes (they are hired) but we still need to get the correct tights (x2) and manage hair and make up (my girls hate their hair put in a pony tail, so making two buns that will last from 8am till 6pm isn’t going to be easy) and juggle Muski.

End of Year at Kinder
The end of year at kinder means a concert at kinder, as well as a party. I am trying to come up with a cool present to give their teachers, but so far I am drawing a total blank. The end of the year also means that we will have orientation at their new kinder for next year, I am hopeful that will magically fit in around ballet rehearsals and current kinder commitments!

Camping Holiday!
We were hoping to be a bit more organised for our holiday than we currently are, but hey, at least we have the tent! The only other big purchase we have to make is a sleeping mat for the Baldy Boy and I – I have found what I want, just waiting on BB to go check them out too. Still not sure what Muski will sleep on though! I feel like there is a thousand little things to organise for the trip, but not sure what they are. I must make a list and try to wrap my head around it all.

and finally… Christmas.
It is not all bad news, I am doing ok in some areas of Christmas planning, even if I am doing really bad bad bad in others.

I have managed to order all of the ‘bought presents’ either online or via the toy library’s fund-raising catalogues. I picked up our order from Eco Toys while the lovely Mel (owner of Eco Toys) was at the local market yesterday and ooooh they are even better in person than they look on the web site! I am hoping all three kids might pick up some money for Christmas/birthday as there are a number of other things I’d love to get from Eco Toys, Mel who runs the site is just lovely and I highly recommend her products and her service, so go have a look. We pick up the toy library orders next weekend, which includes a few things we need to make a start on our ‘made presents’… and here is where my master plan has come undone.

By now I had hoped to have at least made a start, or even completed a few of our crafty presents, but um.. ahem… er… well… ok I confess I have done nothing more than think about what we will do. I have all the plans in place, I’ve researched where we will get the supplies from, I’ve even got a few of the supplies, but as yet we’ve not begun anything. I really, REALLY, need to rectify this, especially since we will celebrate christmas with family at least a week early this year… so I have a week less time… help!!!

Am I the only one staring down the barrel of psycho end of year stuff in the coming weeks? Surely someone else’s life is more mental than mine, and surely they cope just fine…. please, if that is you, come tell me how to do it!

We’re all going on a summer holiday…. sing it with me people!!!

Yes, that’s right, we are busy making plans and organising a tenting holiday. We are so excited to be able to sneak away and spend time together as a family, but even more excited that we will be doing it with some of our closest friends. We’re meeting the traitors who moved to Queensland half way, up on the NSW north coast for a week of Christmas camping and we can’t wait! So not only are we trying to organised birthdays (the Baldy Boys is this week and the Twindoes at the start of November) and Christmas but also our holiday…. can we all say ‘crazy busy’ seven times really fast???

We managed to grab a bargain tent off ebay as our old one just wasn’t going to squeeze in an extra person (we haven’t been camping since Muski arrived), and we figure as the small people grow it was only going to get squeezier.. so we are now the proud owners of a nice big ’18 man’ tent. We pitched it in the backyard when the Baldy Boy bought it home and I am not sure how you’d squeeze 18 men and all their stuff in the tent, but it is plenty big enough for us.

We have a bit of camping gear as we’ve camped on and off… well more off than on since we had kids, so some of it needs and update, and since there is now more of us, we need more of it. So on our list of holiday things to organise we’ve now checked off the first big item – place to sleep? check! We’ve also managed to grab a new camp stove on sale, a car dvd player with two screens (also on sale but we’d have paid full price for the silence it creates in the back of the car) and super Nanny found a replacement kiddy camp chair for the one we broke… but oh the list is still rather long!

We need to sort out what everyone will sleep on. We have two self inflating camp mattresses which the girls have claimed as their own. Last time we camped (on the drive up to Queensland, when I was pregnant with Muski) The Badly Boy and I slept on one of those inflatable mattresses, nice and big but not very comfy. It leaked a tiny bit, not enough to have you sink into the cold hard ground but enough to make me catapult out of bed every time the Baldy Boy rolled over. I have two requests while camping – keep me warm and give me a good nights sleep and I can cope with anything… So I am on the look out for a decent, thickish, comfy camp mattress. Suggestions people?

And that is just the beginning. We still need to sort out food, cooking equipment and some kind of table(s). I need to sort through summer clothes and figure out how to pack a little but enough. We need to figure out how to entertain three small children on the long drive – the DVD player and lots of drawing should work for the big girls but Muski is a whole other kettle of wriggling whiny fish.

So hit me with ‘em! Come on people… I have about nine weeks and not heaps of disposable income to get organised for a family camping trip, I need your best suggestions, advice and help!

As part of the big renovation plans for early next year we will go from a household with one tiny bathroom, where you can sit on the toilet while you vomit into the bath (yes it has been done before) to a two bathroom (one with separate toilet even) household… and it can’t happen a moment too soon for my liking!

There is already a considerable amount of hopping from one foot to the other and ‘hurrryuuupppp I gotta pee’ going on in this household. Why is it that both girls always suddenly need to pee right at the same moment? Add Muski into the toilet mix in a year or so’s time and I see disaster brewing if we stay a one toilet household for much longer.

Plus our current bathroom is old… usable, quirky, charming… but old.

The bath is cast iron with an enamelled finish which is wearing thing in places. Being cast iron, and considering that it gets a little cold up here in the winter, you barely fill it with hot water before it goes cold again. The shower is over the bath, which is ok, but not ideal. The sink is the old pedestal type, with separate hot and cold taps. Yep… if you want to wash your hands in warm water you need to find a plug (that never seems to be where you left it) and actually fill the sink – otherwise your option is washing in freezing cold or scalding hot water… or trying to dance your hands under both taps to get some kind of crazy mix. So really, we deserve a nice new bathroom, or two, don’t we?

We are still trying to work out exactly how we’ll configure both bathrooms. One will be a large family bathroom, and one a smaller shower room with separate toilet – effectively the en-suite off the main bedroom, but also accessible from a hall way.

One thing we are sure about is that we are not into the current trend in bathroom fittings. Huge clunky basins and bowels that sit on top of cabinets are definitely not our thing. ‘Wet rooms’ where you just have a shower up one end of the bathroom, no curtain or glass wall or doors? A bath that is set into a HUGE tiled base or is free-standing but an odd shape? So not for us. We are much more traditional when it comes to bathrooms… simple, usable, kid friendly and easy to keep clean is much more us.

So we’ll go for basic fittings, most likely all white and have boring but usable bathrooms. Though there are a few indulgences we’d like, if we can afford them….

The family bathroom will have a nice big bath in it – not a spa bath, just reasonably deep and long. Something you can lie in and sink up to your neck and really soak in. We had a bath like this in our last house, a super cheap, plastic bath, but the perfect size and shape and I am hoping we can find something similar for this house.

We’d like to add a heated towel rail to each bathroom that is connected to the hydronics, because I am getting that oven… somehow.. someway.. I know I am.

We’re also looking at some water saving devices. A decent water saving shower head – oh how I’d love one of those duel shower heads but I am not sure we can afford (we’re on tanks so we don’t have to actually pay for it but it will run out and then we’d be in trouble) the water we’d use if we had one of those. I have had my eye on one of these toilets for the separate toilet – with the basin built in over the cistern so the water you use to wash your hands is then used for the next flush. They’ve always been a bit clunky looking in the past but this new version is very sleek and sophisticated… just not sure how much it will cost!

So there you have our current plans for the bathroom part of the renovations. It’s your turn now… If you were renovating your bathroom what would you do??

Of late I’ve been contemplating if I have reached any of my organisation goals. Am I really any more organised than I was at the start of the year??

I wanted to de-clutter the house and make our spaces work for us, make a plan to actually get some housework done, stay on top of the laundry, manage to get us all out of the house and to wherever we needed to be on time, to sort out shopping and cooking and food, not leave Christmas till the last minute and just generally feel like I was not chasing my tail all the time. So how am I doing??

De-cluttering – Um… not so hot.
We had a few big chuck outs and we’ve definite got less ‘stuff’ than we did at the start of the year. I’m a lot more ruthless with getting rid of ‘stuff’ than I used to be. We’ve also got better sorted ‘stuff’ and at times we’ve been almost clutter-less in one or two rooms, but then of courses it creeps back in and at the moment we are practically drowning in stuff. I want to have one last chuck and organise of stuff before the end of the year and then let it go… with the renovations hopefully starting in the new year we’ll be drowning in stuff that has been temporarily displaces but in the long run we’ll actually have some storage so no point stressing about it too much I reckon.

Housework – not to bad
The Twinadoes and I have dubbed Tuesday as ‘clean up day’ They have afternoon kinder so we rarely manage to do anything else but potter around the house in the morning, so what better way to spend that time than by having a bit of a vacuum and a mop and a scrub of the toilet. I am not over the top anal about it.. if something comes up and we are not home we don’t do it, if The Baldy Boy is sleeping between night shifts we just don’t vacuum but on the whole Tuesdays is clean up day. The Twinadoes have proved to be supremely helpful. Izzy has a passion for cleaning the toilet – who’d have thought it? – and I am encouraging it for all I am worth. They will both happily wipe down the kitchen cupboards and un-stack the dishwasher and will wash dishes with joy. Now if only I could find something that Muski could help with, because his current activity of hanging off my leg crying to be picked up is not all that helpful.

Laundry – on and off
My goal has always been to get to the bottom of the dirty wash baskets… and I still yet to manage that. But when I am not being slack and am actually doing my planned – one loaded washed, one load hung and one load put away each day we don’t do so bad on the laundry front. But then when I get slack with the laundry and I start putting it off (like now) we get snowed under quite quickly. I constantly suck at the putting away thing.
One day, when I actually have a laundry, I’m going to try the individual wash baskets for each family member thing and see if that helps.

Getting out On Time – off and on.
We mostly manage to get to kinder on time and seem to have that early morning routine down nicely. Getting to other things on time, with all three kids in tow…. I think we have gotten better. If I really really try to be organised in advance we can manage it… if I think I can wing it on the day, we usually can’t.

Shopping, Cooking and Food – work in progress.
We trailed a six weekly shop, but it just didn’t work. It was just too big to do 6 weeks of grocery shopping all at once and too hard to co-ordinate it around the Baldy Boys shifts (since I couldn’t manage to do the shop on my own). So we are back to monthly shops and much happier.
I think I am getting better and better with the cooking thing. I cook so many things these days that I would never have dreamed of a few years ago. I am still working on the loaf of bread, but I can do naan and foccacia with a small child clinging to one hip! We’ve got a pretty decent rotation of meals happening and as long as I don’t get slack we manage pretty well. Always on the look out for new things to try and cheaper ways to do things – especially now that Izzy has gone all picky on us. Can you believe she has gone off home made meat pies and on to lettuce! What four year old chooses to eat lettuce for dinner???

Christmas – is creeping up on me!
I am slightly more organised than I was last year, but still have a lot to do in a short space of time! I still have a list a mile long of things I want to make – I am waiting on some supplies to arrive before I can start which is a bit of a bummer. Other things I just need to stop putting off and go start them… story of my life really!
I am not sure if it is making things easier or harder but we’ve made plans to go away camping around Christmas time this year, so we have all of that to organise. It does mean we won’t worry too much about decorations for home, and we won’t be juggling family commitments on the day which will be a nice change. We are just so looking forward to getting away and spending time on the beach with the kids and some really good friends, so despite having some extra work to do to get organised it is a really lovely positive thing we are all looking forward too.

So do I still feel like I am chasing my tail?? Sometimes. Mostly though only when I am being lazy and slack… which I allow myself to do every now and then. No point being crazy about all this organising stuff, but when I get that tail chasing feeling I know I need to put some effort in to dig my way out of the hole again. I have no desire to be the ‘perfect little housewife’ and always have a hot meal on the table by the time my dear husband gets home, and have children who tidy their room and to make my bed as soon as I leap out of it… no… that is not me… (stop laughing Mum…. some people reading this might truly believe I make my bed and have a tidy room….) I just want to live in a house that is not a total dump, have clean clothes to wear now and then, have decent food to eat that doesn’t blow the budget and not be stressing about the little things all the time…

So how is everyone else doing with this whole ‘being a mother and housewife’ gig? Does anyone really leap out of their bed in the morning and rush to make it???

Soooo I am in this in between limbo land, having seen the architect who patiently listened to all our mad ideas, measured the house and then disappeared with a promise to draw up plans that we’d all be happy about. So now we wait. We wait for the much anticipated first draft plans to arrive. And while we wait? We come with all kinds of crazy, wonderful ideas for the house that most likely a)won’t actually fit in our space or b) isn’t possible where we live or c)we can’t actually afford to do… or d) all of the above! What fun!

Currently most of my big ideas focus on the kitchen.

Our new kitchen will go pretty much in the same spot as our old one, though it will possibly end up being slightly bigger (not because we need it to be bigger but because of how everything will fit in with the other additions). Instead of me standing at the sink looking out the window to outside I will stand there and look out over the dining area part of our family/living room. Yes! I will actually be able to see my children playing in the living room while I cook – pretty much anything else apart from that is inconsequential…. but you know.. it’s fun to try and plan the best kitchen ever!

Top of my kitchen ‘I want it!’ list is one of these…a Rayburn wood fired stove with hydronic heating capabilities. Trust me to want the $15000 stove… yes that is thousand… fifteen… thousand… dollars. In my defence this will also be the heating for the entire house (it heats the water for hydronic heating) so it is more like a stove and a central heating system which doesn’t make it seem quite so freakishly expensive…. but still.

I want it in blue… or maybe red…. yes red… or blue… In fact I’d settle for any colour, except brown, which is the only colour they ever come in when people sell them second hand! Typical!

We’ll keep our current electric cooker as well (we have no mains gas here so it is electric cooking or wood or getting a gas bullet that needs to be filled all the time). It’s in perfectly good working order and it will mean I won’t have to light the fire in the heat of summer when I want to cook. So yes, effectively I want to have to ovens in my new kitchen, but I’m not greedy really I’m not! In theory the wood stove will pay for itself in electricity savings, and eventually we’ll have enough trees planted so we can even harvest our own fire wood and be pretty much self sustainable as far as cooking and heating goes, which will be really nice.

I am convinced that a red (or blue) Rayburn 355m (or similar) will somehow come to reside in my kitchen. I am not sure exactly how that will happen, but I am confident that it will, somehow. Apart from this one big, desperate desire I am not too fussed about the rest my kitchen.

I don’t want it to be huge. We don’t have a very big fridge nor do I want one. I am not worried about having heaps of storage space as we have next to none now and cope just fine. Plus we will have a walk in pantry, a real old fashioned ‘dark room’, so that will take care of a lot of the food and kitchen storage. So it’ll be just a few cupboards, some bench space and a sink I guess.

I really have no clue what kitchen things are must haves and what are definitely best left out. I am not a fancy cook, I don’t need fancy appliances (heck I don’t even have electric beaters!) so I don’t need a fancy kitchen. But I do cook quite a bit and spend a lot of time in there at this point in my life and I can’t see that getting any less any time soon. So it needs to be functional and practical and easy to use.

So come on people… hit me with your best kitchen ideas. Does anyone have a wood fired stove, am I totally out of my mind to be coveting one?? What is the best thing about your current kitchen? What would you avoid at all costs? What are the things that you don’t think about till afterwards and then wish you’d done differently? If you could build your dream kitchen…heck lets get wild and say if money was no object, what would you have in your dream kitchen?

Just checking in to see how everyone is going with their Christmas planning? And, of course to be able to gloat just a little since I am quite proud of how well I am doing this year!

(This is last years Christmas tree decorating in full swing)

So far I’ve sent off my orders via the Toy Library’s Christmas Toy Catalogue fund-raiser and managed to get just about every child’s gift – well the ones we are not planning on making anyway.

I’m slowly narrowing down the list of ideas for handmade gifts. The girls and I have made final decisions on at least two of these and have begun to collect the items we’ll need to complete them. I am still up in the air about one or two others – way too many great ideas out there to choose from and I will need to have a few practice runs to see if I am actually clever enough and crafty enough to complete one or two things I’d really like to give.

I’d really like to make a ‘softie’ or very easy cloth doll for a little girl I know so every now and then I crank up our slow net access and crawl the blogs to see what I can find… lots of options but so far only one or two that look a little like what I want and but I am not sure I am clever enough to complete them. Does anyone have any links to good softies patterns? I wouldn’t mind something appropriate for a baby boy too, but it has to be simple!

Skip to My Lou is blogging a series on ideas for a handmade Christmas and you know if it is on that blog it is sure to be a really cool crafty idea so I am reserving final decisions on what we will make until I’ve seen all of her ideas first. She also has a really nifty gift planning sheet to download if you need something to help you keep track of it all.

So I feel like I have the present thing somewhat under control – though I do need to actually start creating stuff, that would help! We’ve also finalised decisions about what we’ll be doing over the Christmas break so now I can start planning the nitty gritty of what we actually want and need to celebrate the big day – but more on that later.

So how is your Christmas planning going?

Yes I know I said I was switching ‘Organise ’08′ for ‘Renovate ’09′ but it’s my blog and I reserve the right to chop and change whenever I like… besides… I really need to get organised if we are going to tear down half our house hey?

So spring is here in this part of the world – by the calendar if not always by the state of the weather – so time to spring clean. I’m feel pretty good about the general state of our house at present, well some days, but there are still a lot of things that need work and if I blog about them I might just feel pressured enough to achieve some of them!

The study
This room will go when we start the renovations and we’ll have to find a new home for the computer (that is if we still have net access at all by then). It’s likely it will be housed in a corner of the dining room (which will probably also be our kitchen for a while – fun!). I think there is space to squeeze in one small desk that will hold the PC and associated bits and that’s it, so there is going to have to be a radical de-clutter of this room, and that is an understatement! I need to get rid of heaps of stuff and find new homes for other things…. it’s the room I’ve constantly put off doing anything about all year, so it is a BIG job.

The Master Bedroom
Or ‘the master, mistress and little master bedroom’ as it should be called in our house. It is already home to a fair bit of junk that needs to be sorted and it could just do with a damn good clean. I need to be ruthless with the contents of the wardrobe (if you could call it that – since it is just racks of wire baskets along one wall!) and get rid of some clothes and junk with the view to storing some non-clothing things there when the renovations begin and we loose what little storage space we have.

The back Garden.
I need to find a way to tame the plastic grave yard. Our current storage isn’t enough nor easily accessible for the kids to get out or put anything away (ha! like they ever put anything away) and besides it will cease to exist when we begin ripping apart our house so we need something that can sit out in the weather and is cheap and easy for sandpit toys, balls, skipping ropes etc.

The Twinadoe’s Bedroom
I recently gave this a huge de-clutter as the girls are very keen on ‘playing in their room’ at the moment. There is one last thing I really want for that room – under bed storage! I must must must remember to go price up some boxes or look at options.

This has kind of turned out to be a ‘Renovate 09′ post after all… pretty much all this organising is related to the fact that we are preparing to rip off the back of our house early next year.

We’ve lived through the fun of not having a kitchen or bathroom once before; right around the time the girls were born in fact. This time we are minus the heavily pregnant on bed rest woman and plus three small children – I am not sure which is worse!?! It’s all part of the fun though, and even when it stops being fun (about a week in I suspect) we’ll just have to grin and bear it as best we can. We have no choice as our budget (or lack there of) means we can’t afford to go live somewhere else while it’s happening, plus we are doing a lot of the work ourselves so it will be a slower process than usual. So I am going to need to be as organised as possible. It will all be worth it in the end though… I’m sure of it!

So who else is spring cleaning? Or Autumn cleaning I guess if you are up the other end of the world! Anyone with some nifty storage tips or tricks or links? Anyone else writing a public to do list?
