Arrrgghhh Pox!

I have the pox!

Ok it’s not really the pox but it is just as bad!

I have a cold sore.. actually I have three! How is that fair!? Three????

I can’t tell you when I got my first cold sore, but have been battling the buggers for years. Nothing seems to work 100% of the time, though I’ve had a lot of success recently with using ice to freeze them at the first sign of a tingle. I’ve even managed to stop some from coming all together, and those that still made an appearance were a lot smaller, less painful and healed quick after the ice trick. The only problem is you have to catch them really early for it to be successful, and you have to ice ice ice ice as much as you can till it goes away or you accept it is coming regardless.

I tried that trick this time when the first one popped up with reasonable success but the other two haven’t succumbed to the ice at all. Poop. I have huge painful blisters that are going to take forever to heal so that everyone over Christmas can so helpfully point out – ‘oh you have a cold sore’… thanks but I KNOW! Even the glands on that side of my face are sore.

I really do feel like that zovirax add where she wears a motor cycle helmet everywhere or puts her head in a paper bag. I’d dearly like to just go to bed and not get up until they are gone.

Ok poor me rant over… just felt the need to share my misery!

  1. So zovirax doesn’t help for you?

I have used it and it definately helped, also lemon juice at the first sign of the tingle but as you say you’ve gotta get them quick. From memory though I think it still helped to dab some on once they are there. I used to get them but haven’t had one for years – hopefully not jinxing myself saying that!

  2. Oh groan Kate, it must be awful and I feel for you.

Get a t-shirt made up that simply says
    “Yes, I know”
and point to that when someone points out the obvious!

  3. Hi there. I am a regular reader of your blog, but I don’t think I have commented yet!!
I just had to let you know (so I have come out of hiding!!! lol)
of something my Mum takes & swears by it – L-lysine. I found this on the net…….”Taking lysine supplements can speed recovery time and reduce the chance of recurrent breakouts of the herpes infection.”

    Hope they go soon!!!
    Sandi :)

  4. I have no remedies to share I’m afraid – I guess you either get them or you don’t, but I know they’re probably awful things to have, so I feel your pain.

If you can’t get a tshirt made up like Lee suggested, a post-it stuck on your forehead is also quite effective ;o)

Hope they heel quickly! Maybe you should change your blog name temporarily to Picklepox?! Oh slap me, I’m bad! ;o)
