Recently we introduced our children to the joys of 80’s music
We’ve been dancing around the house to the likes of Wake Me Up Before You Go Go and I Think We’re Alone Now.
I instructed my worrier that she needed to listen closely to the profound words of Bobby Mc Ferrin’s Don’t Worry Be Happy – “In every life we have some trouble, when you worry you make it double, don’t worry, be happy.” Then we all rocked out to Katrina and the Waves Walking on Sunshine just to cement the ideas of optimism.
Ah the memories.. and oh the shame. I was into some terribly daggy music when I was younger.
Aha!, Gloria Estefan, 1927 and (oh my!) Debbie Gibson!
I so had that waistcoat and the chambray shirt. And ok, I confess, I still know all the words and probably most of the dance moves. I wonder if I can buy that on itunes….
So now I’ve bared my daggy music soul…. it’s your turn. What daggy music do you have tucked away in the back of the cupboard.
Oh my god, I thought that Debbie Gibson song was the hottest when I was 13 hehehe.
I also confess to crushes on Bros and NKOTB. LOL !
I had that Debbie Gibson cassette tape :) Also a big fan of 1927, Wham, Kids in the Kitchen and ahem, Uncanny X-Men!
I remember Debbie Gibson but not that particular song. I liked pretty much the same music as you but I also liked Howard Jones, Spandau Ballet, Paul Young, Cold Chisel, Eurogliders, Pseudo Echo and probably lots of others I can’t think of right now.
Foxtel have an 80s radio station! So good…so lame…so many memories :-)
Oh my god, lost in your eyes!!!! i don’t know what’s more embarrassing, admitting i just watched that clip twice or the fact i went to see her in concert when I was 14! Supported by Indecent Obsession, remember them? xx
LOL ! Indecent Obsession, yup I remember them !
I was rocking out in the fruit shop the other day to Heart “All I Wanna Do.” My toddler has his hands over his ears saying “Mummy, don’t sing!!” ;)
Seriously, though I have an Everclear CD that has been my favorite for a good 17 years now.I’m ridiculously attached to it.
Does going to see Vanilla Ice in concert. :: oh the shame ::
‘count’ ….. that should read ‘Does going to see Vanilla Ice in concert count.
Calling gloriaaaaa…. Gloria!
What a fun post. Would you please explain the word ‘daggy’? Apparently I love daggy music since I like all those songs too. ;o)
Denise
I am new to your blog and I just had to find out what “daggy music” was. Based on the selections mentioned daggy must mean classic :) (well except for DG, I never did like her)
I admit I too listen to music when I am alone and just need to feel young again.
Thanks for blogging!
Oh my, oh my. I’ve only just discovered your blog. This is the first post I’ve read. And I’ve discovered a KINDRED SPIRIT. 80’s music is THE BEST! I feel so sorry for today’s young people…
I blogged about it here: http://blogiota.blogspot.com/2010/02/life-isnt-fair.html
I was attracted to your blog by the title – in case you’re interesed. Picklebums is a great name. Off to browse through it some more…
