Host a Christmas Decoration Party
This post is sponsored by ALDI
Christmas is about getting together with family and friends, enjoying good food and good company. According to a survey by ALDI, Australians are celebrating at a number of events across the season and indulging in gourmet treats as well as traditional Christmas favourites.
A fun way to combine a bit of indulgence with a necessary Christmas task is to host a Craft Your Own Christmas Decorations party!
Doing Christmas crafts is fun, but doing it with friends is even better, add some delicious food and drink and you’re set! And it doesn’t have to be difficult or expensive either.
We popped into ALDI to pick up some gourmet treats for the adults, and some delicious snacks for the kids.
ALDI also has lots of supplies that are perfect for making decorations and decorating your home – ribbons, wrapping paper, Christmas trees and lights are all great value and will get you off to a good start.
I love that I can do my regular monthly shop at ALDI and get everything I need for celebrating without losing my mind, or trashing my budget. With only one trip I had everything we needed for our Craft Your Own Christmas Decorations party.
What you’ll need to host your own Christmas decoration party:
Ideas
Decide which ornaments you’ll make before the party, don’t go overboard just one or two will do so you still have time to eat and enjoy each other’s company. If you are involving the kids make sure you choose tasks that even your youngest can have a go at.
The internet is bursting with fabulous ideas and instructions, from elaborate to easy. Free printable decorations are some of the easiest DIY decorations you can make, here are a few ideas:
- Starry Christmas Angels from Jenny Allsorts
- Christmas Printable Bunting from Love Mae
- Star and Circle Decorations from Picklebums
- Mod Ornaments from Paging Super Mom
- DIY House Ornament from Non Dairy Diary
- Dove and Tree Decorations from Picklebums
- Printable Reindeer decorations from Fuxia atelier
- Paper Snowflake Templates from the Elli blog
- Print and colour Christmas ornaments from Education.com to keep the kids busy!
Craft supplies
Once you’ve decided on the decorations you’ll make and collect the supplies you’ll need. Scissors, craft knives, cutting boards, ribbons, markers, glue and double sided tape are all useful when you are making printable decorations.
Include a list of BYO supplies with the invitation. It’s always handy to get everyone to bring their own pair of scissors and extra supplies so there is enough to go around.
You can pre-print the above free printable templates ahead of time so that everything is ready to go. I find matte photo paper is a great option for printing crafty projects.
Food and Drink
We timed our party for the afternoon so lots of nibbles and treats were on order. Finger food is best so you can eat and craft at the same time, but don’t forget serviettes or baby wipes for wiping fingers – there’s nothing worse than sticky fingers on your decorations!
We splurged on a few indulgent treats for the adults which didn’t cost the Earth, thanks to ALDI’s Specially Selected range. The adults enjoyed Christmas cake and scrumptious chocolate and salted caramel cookies.
ALDI also has a great selection of kid-friendly treats too. The kids happily munched on pretzels and chocolate fudge wafer rolls- get a few tins of the wafer rolls, they are delicious and like all ALDI food products, they are free from artificial colours, which is an added bonus.
We kept the kids occupied while we created some of the more tricky decorations with the fabulous ALDI DIY Gingerbread House. It’s so simple to put together, none of the work of baking, just the fun of construction and decoration, and eating of course! They are cheap enough that you could get a couple of these so everyone can get in on the action!
Our decorations look great on our huge ALDI 7ft Christmas tree, especially when it is all lit up with the lights!
What sort of Christmas party would you like to host?
Taking inspiration from all the Christmas goodies at Aldi, what kind of Christmas party would you host??
Inspired by those hunky lifesavers on the ad, I would host a beach party complete with sparkling champagne punch, wraps with Turkey, Brie and cranberry sauce finished off with that awesome Aussie pavlova and some yummy mango sorbet for the kids.
omg 12 days of chocolate? I love ALDI chocolate! I’d host a chocolate party!
With the incredibly hot weather in Brisbane these days, I think a gourmet ice-cream sundae party would be fab! Just set up tubs of ice-cream and lots of toppings in bowls for guests to create their own perfect sundae. I haven’t tried Aldi ice-cream before but those flavours look delicious!!
We would love to have kid’s special Christmas party this year. Kid’s will have loads of fun by making and decorating their own Gingerbread Houses from ALDI. I will buy lots of milk coin chocolates so that kids can arrange them in form of christmas tree and the best one will win wafer roll and different types of puddings. Afterall christmas is all about enjoying, having fun and sharing…
I am sure this party is going to be the one that kids will remember for a long time.
A Christmas buffet breakfast. It would have:
a fresh fruit bar with lovely in season mangoes, passionfruit, raspberries and blueberries and yogurt
Christmas ham sliced
BBQ’s atlantic salmon
Eggs
Juice
Inspired by the cute towels and swimsuits I think we’d have an outdoor water play party for the kids and their friends. The kids could play with their slip and slide and run under the sprinkler (which they were doing today), and we’d set up a table of yummy snacks to share.
Beach party definately, beach cricket with nibbles of crackers, yummy special cheeses (who doesn’t love special cheese after 3 pregnancies!) and cold turkey on fresh breads. A feast for the adults, kids and the seagulls who can do the messy crumb clean up for me!
I LOVE the idea of a Christmas decoration party! I try to keep things simple at Christmas time, so I think I’d have an Aussie Christmas party – with cold meats for mains, and lots and lots of pavlova for dessert.
hmmm, I’m thinking an Italian inspired gathering… truffle salami, Roquefort with the Italian rustic crackers, plus panettone and paneforte! I think I’d better visit Aldi today as I’ve just seen they have cherry liqueur chocolates, yum!
I really love the idea of a Christmas decoration party. It is an ideal way to get everyone together, prepare for the holiday and have a good time, too. And the creations are sure to become lasting memories.
We would enjoy an egg free Christmas since my little girl has a severe allergy to eggs. We couldn’t enjoy a delicious pavlova like they have in Aldi but we could possibly enjoy the amazing fresh fruit and brandy snap baskets. :) Merry Christmas!
