We don’t do Halloween in our house. Growing up Halloween was just not something that was celebrated here, though in recent years, I guess with more and more US culture being assimilated into our own culture more and more people are celebrating…. but not us. Being on the other side of the world it is yet another tradition that makes no sense when your seasons are reversed… it is not pumpkin season here, nor harvest time, it’s spring not autumn… and well… yeah.. I just can’t get into it.
There are a handful of teens and pre-teens who live in our street who in past years have done the trick or treat thing. I am not such a spoil sport to totally rain on their parade and we usually scrounge up a few chocolates or as a last resort, dollar coins for them if we are home. After all.. not only have they had to walk a heck of a long way between each house in our street (we are all on acreage) they’ve had to walk a good long way just down our drive on the off chance someone is home and willing to give… and they are good kids, so I am not going to ruin their fun. But that is about where Halloween begins and ends for me…. except when it comes to digi scrapping. The digi scrapping world is a buzz with Halloween goodies at the moment.
I usually blog on about digi scrapping stuff over at my design site (lazycowdesigns) but I’m trying to lighten my load and only blog at one place at the moment (ie here) plus I thought even non-did scrappers might find this freebie useful.
Yep, we don’t celebrate Halloween but I did have fun playing around with colours and elements I wouldn’t normally get to use so I thought I’d share it with everyone as a special ‘treat’. You can download it from here – please don’t share the link, rather send people here to my blog so they know what it is all about. Please also read the terms of use file (tou) that comes with this zip so that you know how you can and can not use my goodies. Oh and be sure to leave a comment linking me to any LOs or amazing things you make with this so I can go check them out!
Enjoy… and happy Halloween!
Very cute!! I don’t celebrate Halloween so much as beltane on the 31st ;-) Since we are in the southern hemisphere and all. But I have nothing against the fun aspect of Halloween (real celtic name-Samhain) and have been celebrating it in a minor way since I was a kid :)
Thanks Kate. I’m not a big fan of Halloween either, for many reasons. But my almost 5 year old would like a pirate party for his birthday in just over a months time so I can see this coming in handy.
we don’t do the halloween thing either.
That card is great though! Just the thing for piratey little boys. :)
