They’ve only been in our house for a day and already they have turned it upside down!
Yes, we won ‘duck lotto’ and are one of two lucky families who get to keep a pair of the ducklings that hatched at the girl’s kinder last week. Oh my are they messy little things. Messy, but oh so cute and very funny.
Letting them run around the lounge room is a comedy of errors. Not just the ducklings, who pitter patter around at break neck speed and fall over their own feet every now and then, but the children who crawl around after them wiping up the poop! For a moment or two everything will calm down as they find a perfect spot to collapse in a heap together – the ducklings not the children – then they are off again and it’s on for young and old!
And oh how they LOVE water! Get out a bucket of water and they are beside themselves to get in for a paddle. They also spend an awful lot of time in their brooder box, head in the drinking water, just splashing about. They are behind me as I type and all I can here is spilsh splash peep peep splish splash.
They are as yet unnamed. We don’t know if they are boys or girls so I am pushing for a matching pair of unisex names, but so far everything I have suggested has been shouted down and I am stubbornly opposing calling them Barbie and Princess.
If anyone is up for a challenge try suggesting some names. If anyone can come up with a pair of names that all of my family will agree to, I might just have to give you a prize! Any takers?
