I want stuff.
Some of it is stuff we need. Not super, super, really, important things, stuff that we can almost certainly live without, if we really had to. Still… it is stuff that I’d really like, that would be useful, that would make life easier, that would help us work towards some goals.
Some of it is stuff I just want. Sometimes I am not even sure why I want it, it just seems like it would be cool to have.
We are trying not to spend buckets of money we don’t have on ‘stuff’, not to mention my on going attempts to rid our house of ‘stuff’ in the name of ‘de-cluttering’. So working out whether this stuff is a ‘want or a need’ is important, but sometimes kind of difficult. I was going to write two nice neat lists of wants Vs needs – but I found that one sometimes spills on to the other and it gets all messy then…. so I am just going to list the stuff and you all can tell me if my classification is correct or whether I am simply out of my mind to want that stuff in the first place!
A laminator. – want
Totally frivolous really, but I keep thinking of all the nifty things I could do and make if I could laminate things.
Chooks – need
I am listing the chooks as a need here because while we already have 7 chooks they have not laid an egg in the past two months and I think they may never lay again. They are all old Isa Browns, a breed who were bred as battery hens to squeeze out as many eggs as possible in the first 18 months of their lives and then get the chop. All of them were well past their best egg laying days when we got them so considering that, they have done pretty well in supplying us with eggs for the last year or two and we really do appreciate that, but I had to buy a half dozen eggs yesterday and I don’t like that at all. So new chooks are definitely on the agenda and soon.
I have been to a couple of local farmers markets and spoken to some breeders and have my eyes on some Sussex and maybe a faverolle that I saw and fell in love with as well. Or maybe some Wyandottes – argh I can’t decide! Whatever breed we’ll get a rooster and a couple of hens and a few bantum hens for brooding.
A shredder. – need/want
I can’t decide if this is a need or a want… it would certainly be useful but we could definitely live without it. We have a LOT of scrap paper in our lives, and living where we do (in the sticks) we don’t have recycling pick up. We are separating and collecting our tin and glass and plastic and eventually the Baldy Boy will take a HUGE big load directly to the recyclers himself (not worth it to do a small trip). But paper is not so easy to store. We burn some of it when lighting the fire and I send some newspapers home with my Mum to put in their recycles bin, but we still have a lot of it lying around. So the idea is if we could shred it, it could go into the chook house for winter bedding (because straw/hay is soooo exey at the moment) and then be mucked out and used on the garden as mulch and in the compost heap. In effect recycling our own paper, and saving money at the same time – except I need the money to buy the shredder in the first place.
Clothes – for me, for the kids. – need/want
Now we don’t really really REALLY need clothes. We could all get by with what we have – but it would be nice. The girls could do with some more long sleeved t-shirts. Muski needs more winter pants that actually fit – this might actually be more of a need than I first imagined looking at how short his hand me down pants are getting of late. I wouldn’t mind a nice new winter cardi or jacket or something…..
Shoes – want
I think my inner shoe fetish has finally started to come to the surface. I don’t really own many pairs of shoes. I don’t like spending large amounts of money on shoes. Shoes need to be comfortable and if so are generally worn until they fall apart. But I do love a really cool and groovy shoe… and I really want a new pair of super groovy winter shoes.
A decent Bra! – need!
I need a new nursing bra, or two.. really badly. I have tried on a few cheapish ones but they all suck. I am guessing I will have to fork out some big $$ for a decent one, but even the expensive ones I have tried on still give me ‘uni-boob’ and I hate that. I wish someone made a regular underwire sports bra but with a drop cup… I know, I know… it is not good to wear underwires while you are breastfeeding, but I’ve never had a problem with mastitis or blocked ducts or even leaking (I’ve never used a breastpad in my um.. three and a bit years of breast feeding) so I reckon now that Muski is 11 months and my boobs are happy little milk makers I could surely wear and underwire without problem. I wonder if I could convert a regular bra to a nursing bra?? hmm….
Can anyone recommend a good nursing bra?
wood chips/soft fall and a few plants – need/want
I want to tidy up the back yard before Muski’s birthday. I’d really like a load of wood chips/soft fall to top up under the swings as there is pretty much none there right now which is not real safe so that is a need I reckon.. I’d also like to spend some money on some more plants for along the back fence. The chooks are now safely banished to the orchard and are not pecking everything I try to plant to death so now is the time…. but I am not sure what I want and I don’t really want to spend heaps of money on it either!
So there you have it, my current list of desirable stuff. Now to decided which items are worth pestering the baldy boy about actually buying and which are not!
