This here is the plan for our new family bathroom…. except I am not happy with it.
I don’t like the current lay out, it just doesn’t seem to look right. I doesn’t feel like it will be functional. I don’t like that the toilet is in the middle of the room and that the shower is right inside the door. I know that I don’t want it like this… I just don’t know how I do want it.
There are some things about this bathroom that can not be changed. The window can not be moved (it is an existing original double hung sash window). The door can not be moved either (again an original door – this room is currently half the dining room). We have to have the toilet in the bathroom.
There are other things that we know we want. We (ok I) really want a BIG bath so need to leave space for that. We are not keen on an open ‘wet room’ kind of shower, being that this is the kids bathroom (among other reasons) so the shower will be a standard sizes square base with glass screen on 2-3 sides. We only want/need a single basin. We need storage, as much of it as we can get, as long as it is functional. We need wall space to hang at least four towels.
We’ve been told that it is not a good idea to have the shower screen butt right up against the bath… though I am not sold on that idea and think we could get around it. But bare in mind we are doing the majority of these renovations ourselves. So apart from the actual plumbing… we’ll be putting in the new studd walls, waterproofing and tiling the whole lot, and while we are pretty darn good at this, we are not professionals so we aren’t keen on tackling anything to fancy or expensive.
Surely all of you out there in blog land have stored in the back of your very huge brains your plans for the perfect family bathroom? Surely you’d just love to share them with me?
Heck… lets dream a little… despite the fact that it’ll drive me nuts hearing all your awesome ideas that we can’t afford.. lay them on me. What would your ultimate bathroom design be like, if money (and skill) was no object???
