Real Life Wednesday – Reasons My House Will Never be in Home Beautiful Magazine

Real Life Wednesday - Why my house will never be in Home Beautiful Magazine
I used to read Home Beautiful magazine and hope that one day I would have a house like the ones on those glossy pages. It’s only quite recently that I’ve wised up and realised that a house that is livable and lived in is what I really want, not a perfectly beautiful home. But that realisation may be somewhat coloured by the fact that my house will never, ever be featured in a glossy magazine.

Here’s why my house will never be in home beautiful….

Clean, unfolded laundry is an accessory in almost every room.

An ‘artful shelf arrangement’ in our house consists of 2 toy cars, a plastic giraffe and a lump of blue-tak.

Some houses have air conditioning, we have holes in the floor.

Our interior designer is ‘Mr Ikea’.

Instead of a snazzy modular sofa with a scattering of cushions in front of our fire, we have a clothes horse full of washing to dry.

At least one third of our window furnishings involve bedsheets and thumbtacks.

Our landscaped outdoor entertaining area currently includes a makeshift laundry, a very large drainage ditch and a jumble of plastic toys.

One day our home will be less building site/disaster zone and more lovely lived in space, but it will ever be ‘home beautiful’ and I am ok with that!

So tell me… would your home be featured in a glossy house mag?

Real Life Wednesday

As always there are no hard and fast rules for this, you can share a failure or any other aspect of your perfectly imperfect life!

If you blog you can link up below. If you are on twitter or instagram you can share using the hash tag #reallifewednesday (add @katepickle when you do so I can find it!). You can even post a comment or share a photo on my facebook page if you like. Don’t worry, you don’t have to post or share today, you’ve got all week till the next one.

Next week will be the last Real Life Wednesday link up. It’s time for me to move on from this linky… though I’ll never stop posting about my ‘real life moments’. But if you’ve been thinking about joining in… now would be the time to do it!

Yes, the laundry, the laundry! A constant in our house too. I am always so glad to read of others who have this home accessory.
I also have lumps of blu-tack around the place on shelves and walls, because I grab some from wherever when I need it! That’s just smart, right?
You’re so right though – I recently also gave up on the idea of a completely tidy house, and have been planning a blog post on the same thing. When you’ve got young kids, you have little choice but “lived in” decor unless you want to lose your mind.

I recently started a whole blog about how my house is not featured in a magazine whether it be about beautiful homes or ideal parenting skills. I have flashbacks of episodes of Hoarders when I sit in one place in my house for too long. I’m actually sitting amongst 5 loads of laundry that is half folded from two days ago…..and I have 5 waiting to be washed……and you don’t want to know what’s in my sink. LOL Somewhere on the fridge is a daily cleaning schedule that I so ambitiously organized. And I only have one thing to say about all of it. I have three kids: a three year old girl, a soon to be two year old girl, and a 2 month old boy. Cleaning schedule? I’m still working on getting everyone to live through the day without any bloodshed. :)
