Shhhhh…. I’m going to tell you a secret!
Well ok it isn’t much of a secret since some of you commented about it on last week’s Real Life Wednesday post, and I hadn’t even noticed till you said… but anyway….
Here’s my terrible mother secret….
My children rarely wear matching socks.
Actually I hardly ever wear matching socks either.
Yep, that’s right, I have given up trying to pair socks and just let them all roam free together in the drawer. We just pick out two random socks and put them on. How rebellious are we?
If I manage to find two similar socks then that is a boon. Two stripey socks are definitely a ‘pair’ in this house, even if one is red and the other blue!
The girls have a drawer full of ‘white socks’ for school, so they at least look like they are paired, though sometimes they go off to school with one sock longer than the other… oh well.
I do try to keep some pairs together, for those occasions when my children’s sock feet will be on public display, but for the most part I don’t bother.
There are just too many other more important things to worry about, and nine times out of ten no one even notices that our socks don’t match… and if they do, well that’s just real life in our family!
What is real life like at your place?
I’m so excited to see you all linking up and sharing your real life!
I loved this post from Critters and Crayons about a frazzled Mum and Nun and a public fart!
And this ‘LAME’ post from Crash Test Mummy is a cracker.. I love it when people can laugh at themselves.
If your life is full of those crazy little things that are so ‘real’ they are ‘unreal’, the things that make you laugh, because if you didn’t laugh you’d cry, those every day things… please join in and link up.

Oh, you go one better than me. I had had kids for 3 years before it hit me that I didn’t need to fold underwear. I just chuck it all in the drawers. I don’t match up my husband’s million black socks, but I am still matching up kids’ socks. Now I wonder why…
Oh- I never match my kids’ socks. They are actually lucky to get a pair on that fits. Often, the heel patch is somewhere in the middle of the bottom of a foot but as long as I can stretch the top part just over the ankle- even if they are meant to be cuffed, we will be saved from the dreaded shoe funk. :) Sadly, that is true. Thank you so much for featuring my post on the nun and the well-timed flatulence of my kid- It is validating that my crazy sitcom family life is a very good one, indeed. :)
I have 4 matching pairs stashed for special occasions!! Other than that it is a lucky dip!!
I just link up a post, my first visit to real life Wed :) I hope it’s the right kind of post.
Matching the socks up is my very least favourite part of laundry, especially because my husband has 10 pairs of slightly different black socks!
Cool secret.
My hubby goes to work with odd socks because I don’t pair them for him.
However, I personally just can’t wear mismatched clothes- not even socks or pyjamas. (Actually when I was feeding I relaxed about the pyjamas because I was going through so many tops).
me and the kids always wear odd socks as well!! Way to much effort finding pairs!!
Heidi never wears matching socks and gets very upset if you try to make her. Matching socks are ‘not pretty’.
I am totally with Heidi!! :)
Hey your link didn’t seem to work for this week, do you want me to delete it so you can link up again??
I really want to join this Real Life Wednesday thing you’ve got going on. I have huge urges to reveal my reality! And non-matching socks? It messes with my mind, but have had to let go my need to match them.
I would love you to share your reality… I bet it is beautiful even if it is messy! :)
Ah, the sock thing! I try and match, Hubby doesn’t give a hoot!
Thanks for linking to my post Kate :)
I haven’t posted for Real Wednesday this week, but I did post this doozy on FB yesterday.

Oh the irony! While I was writing this comment the kids have gone mad with the hose in the back yard. I now have two soaking wet kids who I need to get out of the house in 30 minutes! Real Life indeed!
I think I would rather have grown up in a family where it was OK to wear mismatched socks! As it is, I was an only child (sigh) so socks were not an issue. And I am the mom of an only child, so ditto. BUT my husband on the other hand! Complete opposite! He has all the same white sports socks or whatever they are called in man-sock-world, but that is not enough. After he buys a six-pack (of socks) he makes marks on each pair so they do not get mixed up/mismatched. Also, I knew a stand-up comic, who could not wear the same pair of socks twice! He did not throw them out, to his credit he donated them (not sure if he washed them). So he was always buying socks! Like they were paper napkins!
I loved your post so much I had to read it aloud to my husband, just so I could say “SEE!” We never have matching socks in the house, even though I buy multiple pairs of the same ones so I have a chance of getting two matching. As for me, I usually don’t care unless you can see them. Thank you for this great post. Reminds me that I am not the only one…
