six for saturday - a random list of cool links each week on picklebums.com

Cough! Cough! Cough! If my kid doesn’t stop coughing I think I will lose my mind. Cough! Cough! Cough!

I know I am supposed to be more caring but I ran out of compassion at about 2am last night after two days and nights of constant coughing. No matter what we do, what medication we give her, what old wives tale we try, nothing seems to help, she just keeps on coughing.

And in sweet, painful, irony… The three year old slept in his bed for the whole entire night for the first time last night. Which should have meant that I had my bed all to myself for the entire night, except that I was sharing with Little Miss Cough Cough Cough.

In an attempt to distract myself from all that coughing here are some cool things I’ve found online this week:

1. This cake is made with whole oranges, yep, skin and all… I have to try this!

2. This made me laugh a lot more than I care to admit.

3. This is the first issue of Childhood101’s Play Grow Learn ezine that I have not contributed to. It’s pretty good despite that.

4. Do you like making stuff out of cardboard? Then this blog is for you.

5. Loved this look at Lego, gender issues and the new scientist minifig.

6. It’s become a tradition to take the big kids to the movies each school holidays. These holidays we are off to see Turbo! thanks to 20th Century Fox. I am trying to keep it a secret from the kids, but I am not sure I’ll manage it.

This competition is now closed. Congratulations to Sal, Susannah and Katrina.

Turbo is ‘a 3D comedy about an ordinary garden snail whose dream to become the fastest snail in the world comes true’ and is in cinemas here in Australia from September 19th. If you’d like to take your crew to see, I have three double passes to give away thanks to 20th Century Fox and Nuffnang!

That IS painful irony Kate. Fingers crossed it’s not the first time he does it!

I would turbo-charge the time it takes for my daughter to eat her dinner. Her problem is that she talks and mucks around more than she eats. Sitting next to her for 30-45 mins waiting for her to finish is getting real old. Especially when there’s dessert to come. Cmon kid, sweets await!

  2. Tash says

    Hi Kate,

Thank you for using my recipe and post! It is a great cake to bake and so easy!

If I could turbo charge anything would be my fourteen year old getting ready for school in the morning. I don’t think she gets it! You need to be at school at a certain time. Mum doesn’t like to yell at you to get ready. You are in year nine, you have had eleven years of getting ready….. oh brother!

    Have a great weekend!

    Tash

  3. Melita Mc says

Definitley the Hubby, so he can get through all of spring cleaning.

  4. Susannah says

If I could Turbo-Charge something…………. oh the possibilities are endless….. but I would probably have to say my patience. I have none. I need more, more, more patience! So then I don’t NEED to turbo-charge the kids eating dinner, getting them ready for bed, waiting for them to get over the flu… !

  5. Sal says

Hi. Thanks for this post. Really cool cake, will make it this week.

I’d turbo charge my legs so they would move like Road Runner and I’d get everything done with more time to play!! Zoooooom zoooooom!!!!

  6. Trish says

I have one of those coughers too, both had it one after the other 4-5 weeks each. Turbo charged makes me think of the Tool man – I’d like to trunk charge my hubby so he could finish moving us in and our home off – window screens , verandah/deck and fences and still have time to work on his own projects.

  7. Di says

My husband, he has NO sense of urgency about him whatsoever. A turbo charged version would be amazing, to see him on the go go go, unable to stop.

  8. Pauline says

I’d Turbo charge myself so I can keep up with the kids, work & the housework! I try telling them I’m only one person but the won’t listen :)

  9. Amy says

I would turbocharge all mundane but necessary chores so that I can spend more doing the things that our family enjoy!

  10. Sherry says

My laptop! Whenever I go to use it, it’s Flat! My 3 kids are always draining the battery and never bother to charge it up for their old mum…drives me nuts!

  11. Sharon says

Kate, have you by chance tried putting Vicks Vaporub on her feet. Just take some and slather it on your daughter’s skin, and then cover them up with socks. It helps my kids to sleep through the night!

  12. Kim m says

Oh man, could I get someone to turbo charge the speed my daughterr eats at??? She is slower than a snail, much slowerrrrrrrr. I would love a fast paced morning, bring it on!

  13. Melissa Te Whata says

I would turbo charge my hubby while his ‘cleaning’. Why is it I can hang out two loads of washing, make 3 beds, wash the dishes and make the kids breakfast all in the time he can vaccum our 3 bedroom flat????

  14. Kirsty Clark says

Please tubo charge my front load washing machine. I miss my top loader.

  15. Sharon Fawcett says

I’d turbo charge our cat who already spends most of her day madly zipping around the house pouncing on anything that moves. How awesome would it be if she did it at turbo speed? Although poor old Grandma might not like it when she visits!

  16. Kim Featherstone says

If I could turbo charge anything it would be the vacuum cleaner & the steam mop, so cleaning would be done in half the time and I would have more time to relax with my precious girls

  17. Claire thrower says

Shopping trolleys hopefully it will stop any wonky trolleys, no getting stuck behind old people (nothing against old people just on time limit with kids). Getting the shopping done before the snacks run out would be awesome and hopefully stop whinging and tantrums.

  18. marilyn says

I wish I could turbo charge myself , so I am not so disorganized,
eg I have vacuumed one room and stopped, then found some clothes in the linen cupboard, and thought great I will wear these for summer, tried them on , I now remember why they are there.!!!!
Had my lunch and thought it ‘s a lovely day , I will sit out side and read, after a few pages I dropped off
So I’m on the computer enjoying some of Fathers Day Rocky Road(only problem I’m Mum)

  19. Ajubile Lima says

I wish I could turbo-charge my bank account. Yes money is not everything but wouldn’t it be wonderful to just be able to turbo-charge my $$$. One week in France, another week in Italy, another week in Spain, etc. But not to forget and most important, the proceeds from these turbo-charges will be contributed to great charities and causes for sure :)

  20. Alisia Cameron says

I want to turbo-charge this competition so we can all win passes to take our gorgeous children!

  21. joyjoyc says

I’d turbo charge queues – queues at the bank, grocery store, post office, anything that involves waiting in line!

  22. Katrina Corbett says

Definitely the washing machine so it washes, dries, folds and even puts the clothes away!

  23. Renee Ballantyne says

myself so I could get the housework done really quickly

  24. Jay Chant says

I would turbo-charge my Nan.. she takes all day to shop for 1 hour’s shopping!!

  25. Michelle Gray says

I would turbo-charge the cinema popcorn, mouth popping, body bouncing for the ultimate cinema experience.

  26. SANDY HORSFALL says

WITH A THRILL-SEEKING HUSBAND, TWO MISCHIEVOUS, ACTION-PACKED SONS AND ONE INCREDIBLY ENERGETIC SIBERIAN HUSKY, IT WOULD DEFINITELY BE MY STAMINA THAT I’D TURBO CHARGE! IT’S GETTING HARDER EVERY DAY TO KEEP PACE WITH THEM ALL!!

  27. Fi says

My energy – I had loads of energy when I was younger but now that I have kids I feel I need my batteries replaced!
