Six on Saturday

Six on Saturday - a random list of thoughts, loves and links

1. So Cute!

A little while ago I helped a blogging friend with some tweaks to her blog design, and today a package arrived with a note from that friend and full of gorgeous Chalk Chook chalks. There are stars and hearts and fish and cars and the cutest dinosaurs you’ve ever seen! I almost wasn’t going to let Noah draw with them, but I did! (please note – this was a thank you gift, I didn’t know I was getting it, nor was I asked or obligated to blog about it)

2. Play Matters

If you are passionate about play and how important it is for kids, check out this facebook page for loads of cool inspiration and get involved with Play For Life – I wish they’d drop a pod at our school!

3. But Why??

Do you have kids with an insatiable need to know lots of random stuff? Then you need to check out this web site – The Kid Should See This. It’s packed with cool videos on all kinds of interesting topics.

This one about bees is very cool…

4. Talking Punishment

I’ve fallen into a discipline style I am not fond of lately. It is all threats and punishment, and it is not how I want to parent. Then I read this interesting article from If I Ran the Circus discussing a recent New York Times article about letting kids choose their own punishment and it’s motivated me to have a think and make a change.

5. Need Ideas?

Do you need some new, doable, ideas for things to do with your kids? I am slowly adding some more focused play ideas boards to my pinterest account and filling them with loads of great ideas from all over! This week I’ve added Imaginative Play Ideas, Sensory Play Ideas, and Building and Construction Play Ideas. There will be more coming soon, so if you’re interested you could just go to my profile and hit ‘follow all’ then you’ll automatically be subscribed to any new boards I create.

6. While You’re There…

And while you are over playing on Pinterest check out World Vision Australia’s new pinterest account. In the lead up to mother’s day they will be starting off their pinterest boards sharing images of mother’s from around the world. So many stunning photos, and following and sharing World Vision on pinterest is a great way to support them. (please note: I am a World Vision Blogger, I volunteer my time and blog space to help promote World Vision.)

Got some random thoughts to share? Perhaps you’ve come across a fab recipe online? Maybe you’ve written a blog post you’re particularly proud of? Please pop over to my facebook page or my google + profile and add your link to the Six on Saturday post!

I just got some Chook Chalk too! For my ‘Earth Angels’ at school to draw around our kitchen garden! It’s fab isn’t it! We got sticks, stars, hearts and butterflies.

Those play pods look amazing. I’m going to put it to the fundraising committee that we dedicate our efforts to getting one for next year. Fingers crossed they like it too.

Thanks for all these links, Kate. I’m often at a loss as to what to inspire my kids with, and there’s so much screen time these days. I love the idea of Play For Life.

    Thanks for the shout-out!

Discipline, in all its many forms, is such a tricky issue, and deeply personal and individual for every family. It’s by far the most common issue I help families with. And far from there being any “right” answer, it’s always a process of figuring out what works for each family and each child—which is always different!
