Six Things for Saturday

Posted on March 2, 2013 Leave a Comment

water beads

That boring old ‘lovely links’ is no more… hence forth it shall be known as ‘Six Things for Saturday’. Enjoy!

1. Water Beads

We finally got our hands on some of these slippery bouncy little balls and they are loads of fun. We got ours from the local $2 shop, and they are not the best quality and quite small, but they were inexpensive (only $2.50 for a container) and they had a few different colours. The Chocolate Muffin Tree has a list of links to water bead ideas and activities so I am pretty sure you’ll see more of them on my blog and on instagram for #playmatters.

2. A Bath

I am longing to have a real bath again, but in the mean time we could do this in our big shower – Painting in the Bath Tub (and a Bath Tub Paint Recipe); a guest post by Rachel Miller at The Artful Parent

3. Lemons

When we have finished using our back yard as a building site I am going to try again to grow a lemon tree. I think we have learned from our past mistakes with frost and wind so I at least have a glimmer of hope. In the mean time I am dreaming of baking all kinds of lemon-ey things like this Lemon Raspberry Cake from Kitchen Confidante and these Cakey Lemon Bar (Brownies) from Bakegirl.

4. Insects

A friend gave my kids a set of these ‘In-Sections‘ a while back and they are constantly in use around here. I wish they came in bigger sets, but I think we might get a different set for one of the June birthday boys – I wish I could find the robot ones somewhere.

5. Rubber Bands

I have been collecting rubber bands for a while now. We often get these nice bright purple ones that come wrapped around certain veggies, they are particularly lovely. I am not the only one wiht a rubber band fetish, Morgan has his own collection too. I have a hankering to make a geo board, a really big one like this one from Play Create Explore but I also really love this kid DIY less structured geo-board idea from Let The Children Play, so much learning and fun going on there!

6. Special Things

Morgan wrote a list the other day, with the help of his sister;

Things That Are Special To Me.
books (especially Dr Suess)
Star Wars, Lego
Aunty Jenny
Scales (his guinea pig)
green things.

I am only a little bit sad that I didn’t crack a mention, but I saw this on pinterest and it made me think of my big boy – If Dr Seuss Wrote Star Wars at Slow Robot

You can find all these links and loads more on my pinterest boards, and I try and share some interesting links, articles and inspiring quotes on my facebook page too so pop on over and say hello.
