Things I know… And a Few Things I Don’t Know.

Posted on April 1, 2011 11 Comments

I know that if you don’t know something you should google, google like a teenager who never learnt proper grammar. If that doesn’t work, ask Twitter. Twitter knows everything.

I know that ‘forever is a really really long time away, as long away as next week!’ I know this because Muski told me in his ‘oh so serious’ voice so it must be true.

I know that the one night the baby decides to sleep will be the same night that every other child decides to wake up in the middle of the night.

I know my world would be a lot more boring without my trust i-phone to keep me entertained while freezing my mum off at the park, or waiting around at various hardware stores.

I know that sunshine and blue skies are glorious!

I know I need to buy some decent, waterproof, winter shoes…. but not boots.

I don’t know what kind of decent waterproof winter shoes that are not boots to buy.

I don’t know how to make more hours in a day, nor how to get myself to use those hours productively.

I don’t know how to encourage my girls to think less about ‘new stuff they can buy’ and appreciate the stuff they have more.

I don’t know the right balance between pocket money just because and paying my kids to do jobs.

I don’t know what stung Zoe on Tuesday afternoon, but I do know her hand is still red and a little swollen.

I don’t know how we managed to get through two weeks of school swimming with both girls always making it to school with dry swimmers, a clean towel and undies!

I know it’s fun to play along with Yay For Home’s Things I Know link up…

I find keeping at least two spare pairs of undies permanently in their bags during intensive swimming weeks allieviates *some* of the constant pressure. But yes, mine have gone occasionally with wet bathers from the day before due to my appalling negligence :-)
Great things list!! have a great weekend Kate

If you can figure that out and fix it for people, you could be a millionaire!!

I’m wondering about the boots too. Surely there’s always room for more boots? Or perhaps that’s just my shoe-aholic talking.

as for pocket money here………all pocket is given only in relation to chores.(when you are a grown up all money is related to your job)

I have a chart of chores to be done and they put their initials when they have done the jobs. Each job earns a certain amount of money.

Last weekend, they did a lot of extra stuff (for the dreaded inspection)so I gave them $10 each extra .Yes a lot I know.but they cancelled weekend plans to help out and did a fab job.

OK so here is my dilemma…

I pay my big girls for doing some things around the house, but then they expect to be paid to do anything and everything I ask them.

Some things I expect them to do simply because it is part of looking after their stuff (like keeping their room tidy or putting away their clean clothes) and other things I expect them to do because I expect everyone to help pitch in to keep our home and life ticking over (lilke helping set the table, or clear the table etc).

So now I am in this crazy place of having to decide what is a job that is just part of living in our family and what is a job above and beyond that? And my goodness they are SO motivated by money and the ability to ‘buy stuff’ at the moment… hmm maybe I need to blog about this! LOL

I know how you feel Kate, I always wish there were more hours in the day too!! We have started Dominic with pocket money but he has just little chores to do, like make his bed, put his school uniform in the wash and empty his shoes of the sand he seems to accmulate at school each day!
