To Do…

I’ve got a problem with my To Do list.

As soon as I begin to write down the handful of things I need to remember to do, I suddenly think of ten more things that I need to do. And while I write down those ten things an extra five things pop up and need to be added. Once those have been written on the list there’s at least five more related items that also need to go on.

Suddenly I’ve gone from a handful of achievable things on my to do list to a list a mile long that I am simply never going to accomplish so really why bother trying?

Hmmmm…. I think I have a problem with my list making skills.

Ok, lists is something I know something about (yay, something I actually know something about)… You need to write you mile long list – call that your master list… Then take five things of that list you can achieve today – if not today, then this week, and make that you short list…

Cross things off your master list at the end of the day/week, and keep adding other stuff onto it as it they come up…

Don’t try to do too much, because that’s just discouraging and counterproductive, the point of a list is to make you feel good, nt bad…

Your to do list sounds like mine. Items on it breed like bunnies on little blue pills and quickly spin out of hand.

Best way to do it I’ve found is to run a word document and have headings of things to do This Day (subcats morning, afternoon, evening), This Week and This Month. That way I can cut and paste the beggars to where they belong.
Italics for stuff to do, bold once it’s done… because I want my accomplishments to be bigger than my crap-yet-to-do. ;p

Doesns’t help that stuff on my list looks like “move and haul 2m of firewood onto the porch and woodshed and sort into small, medium and large pieces while attempting not to bore either child to death”… which can be a smidge overwhelming otherwise! ~_~
