{The areal photograph above was taken by a friend and looks out across the town towards the blacked paddocks after the fire.}
“What did you do on the weekend?” His swimming teacher asked him.
“My house nearly burn-ed down. It was cooool!”
When you are three, a bush fire is all low flying helicopters and fire trucks, and from Noah’s perspective our fire scare on the weekend was really cool!
It wasn’t quite so ‘cool’ for the rest of us, and every day as we drive to school past the acres of black and burned paddocks we are reminded of how close we came to disaster, and how very luck we are.
And then we get to school and life goes on…
Life goes on because it has to, it needs to. It includes donations and fundraising and fence mending and worrying and unfathomable amounts of gratitude for those who volunteer to put their lives on the line every fire season.. but it goes on and I am thankful for it.
I’ve not spent much leisure time online this week, but here are a couple of things I came across and wanted to share:
I am struggling with feeling ‘too busy’ right now but love this gentle reminder ‘Say Yes’ to the good things from Slow Your Home.
And since I am failing so miserably at my ‘photo a day’ project I thought I might take up this #makeit2014 challenge from Artbar instead? You can find me on instagram here.
I need to make these Totally Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cookies from Nigella (thanks to The Organised Housewife) now that the weather has cooled off a little.
So what have you been up to this week??

Wow so close, that would have been scary. I am glad it all turned out okay though. Sweet treats, now that is dangerous. I certainly have a sweet tooth or two.
So close. It is wondrous to see something like that, so huge and wild, but terrifying at the same time.
Hi Kate, I am so glad you and your family and property were not directly affected by the fires, it must have been so scary. We live in the same State and know how bad it was. I just want to let you know that I read your blog every week and really enjoy it, so thankyou :-).
Bush fires are some scary business! Some of the fires were only about 10 mins drive from our place- theres still smoke in the aif. Glad to hear you and your family are safe
