Would I? Should I? Could I?

Posted on January 2, 2009 10 Comments

Photo a Day, Project 375, call it what you want I know quite a few people who are gearing up to do it this year.

Take a photo each day for a whole year? It sounds good in theory. I mean I want to take more photos this year, I really do, but at least one decent photo every day, that seems a little impossible for me. I could take a photo of my feet or my messy desk every day for a year, but who wants to look at that stuff? Not even me. I’d like to take lovely, interesting, quirky, photos… though yesterday when I still thought this was a good idea all I could find to photograph was this…

Day 1
It’s our Christmas Sticks right before I packed it all away yesterday… not exactly award winning stuff.

Then again… maybe it is just the kick up the bum I need to stop walking past the camera on the shelf and actually pick it up. I might even learn how to shoot in something other than auto mode!

But you know, if I say I am going to do this, here, now, publicly, on my blog… and then come middle of next week when I have already failed…. well you know… I’d be compelled to cheat to not look like such a total loser and that wouldn’t be very good now would it?

Maybe I can start a Flickr group called ‘Project 247’ for those of us who know ahead of time that we are not going to make all 365? Any takers?

Haha great in theory but in practice ummm maybe you instead of a photo a day you could get that damn camera off auto instead ;) Commit to even shooting in manual, Av or Tv once a week no exceptions who cares how they come out as long as the photo you take today is worse the one you take in 6 months time well IMO that is progress lol.. I am not committing to any challenges atm but I am committing to myself to test out settings besides Av which I feel comfortable with and use what I have to shoot with low light :)

I had the same thought too at the end of 2008 – I want to improve my photography skills and learn as much as possible.
If I have a project I might actually stick to it!
I started up another blog for it too
    :)

You’ve got me thinking about it Kate! I think I’d probably be in the Project 247 camp too, but maybe it’s worth a try. I’m game if you are. :)

Well I have decided to give it a go, I think like you though I will be pushed to take interesting photos, you might get one of all three boys watching TV, playing Wii, playing computer .. or something .. everyday, so the challenge for me is to stop taking the same photo everytime I get the camera out .. lol!

Hmmm….these days I’d be lucky if I took a photo a week, let alone a photo a day. Andrew’s project of getting a photo of Nathan every day for the first year of his life is pretty tough…sometimes we realise at 10 pm that we don’t have a photo of him for the day, so we sneak in and take a photo of him sleeping. Kind of cheating, but it’s a photo! :D

Project 247 sounds like a plan to me! Except, one wouldn’t have to start immediately…right? :-P
