Simple Sewing Cards Printable.

October 9, 2012

While my girls have been enjoying some more complex textile crafts like weaving and making God’s Eyes, my big boy is still a little frustrated and struggling to get the hang of the ‘in, out, over, under’ technique required. So I decided some super simple sewing cards were in order… to help him practice the skills and gain confidence.

These simple sewing cards are just basic shapes with holes punched around the edges.

We used a regular paper two hole punch, held upside down so we could make sure we were making holes in approximately the right spot, to punch the holes, and wool to ‘sew’ with.

I made a really simple ‘needle’ by cutting out a thin ‘needle shape’ from an ice-cream container lid and making a hole in one end (I melted the hole with a hot skewer). Make sure your ‘needle’ is thin enough to fit through your holes and you may like to tie a button on the end to stop it being easily pulled all the way through.

You can download these simple sewing cards as a free printable. Click on the little arrow on the bottom right of each box below to download the pdf or, click on the printer icon to print straight from this page.

Let me know if you have any problems with downloading or printing. I am still getting my head around using box, but I think it’s working quite well!

My girls would love this, they are into sewing and beading at the moment, anything threading.
I love how you made the needle – what an awesome idea! Just pinned it.
