If I asked you how you were, what would you say?
Would busy be in there somewhere?
If you are anything like me, between children, husband, friends, work and maybe a hobby, you are flat out! Unfortunately we live in a society that glorifies a busy lifestyle, and to an extent, it’s hard to avoid. But you can manage it, and avoid feeling overwhelmed and the frantic ‘never stopping’ feelings of exhaustion.
The first step to looking after everything and everyone else in your life is to first look after YOU!
Here are a few of my favourite tips for managing a busy life and to make sure I am looking after myself and staying sane amidst the daily rush.
Rest
Sleep is essential.
Get some sleep! I know it’s sometimes easier said than done, especially as a mum of a 7 month old baby, but I’ve realised how important it is to get a good sleep. Having a nap (or if you are extra lucky, a full nights sleep) helps you to feel refreshed, energised and focused. Some of these tips for a better nights sleep might help.
Relax
Do something that helps you relax!
Even if you only have a few minutes, finding time to do something relaxing helps a lot. I love sitting down with a coffee, painting my nails, or playing with my dog. Feeling relaxed allows you to release tension that might be keeping you up at night. If you’re not sure what to do, check out this list of activities that help you relax.
Be active
Move whenever you can.
You might not have the time for an hour or even a half hour workout each day, but do you have time for a 10-20 minute walk? Or how about some incidental exercise? Is it possible for you to walk to the store, rather than drive? Or park a little further away from your destination and walk? These may seem like little things, but every little thing helps.
Give yourself a treat now and then.
Treat yourself whenever you can. It may be something totally indulgent like a massage, or something a little easier like a sweet treat.
If you have a healthier treat on hand you’ll feel good when a sugar craving hits, or if you just want to treat yourself at the end of a rough day.
Try this delicious raw caramel macadamia slice. You can make a batch for the week and cut up enough for a slice a day. If the family is lucky, maybe you’ll save a slice for them too!
How do you cope with that overwhelming feeling of being too busy?
Making sure you are well rested, have had some exercise, and feel like you’ve given yourself a treat for all your hard work can make all the difference in feeling on top of your busy schedule. How do you fit these things in to your busy life? What are your tips for managing a busy life?
