I have always had a soft spot for elephants! As a small child I used to collect elephant figurines and soft toys, so I couldn’t resist making these cute little elephant puppets to go along with one of my favourite preschool counting songs.
Elephants Balancing Song.
It’s one of my favourite preschool songs, and the version we know goes like this:
Elephants Balancing.
One little elephant balancing,
Step by step on a piece of string.
He thought it was such a wonderful stunt,
that he called for another elephant!
Two little elephants balancing,
Step by step on a piece of string.
They thought it was such a wonderful stunt,
that they called for another elephant!
Three little elephants balancing,
Step by step on a piece of string.
All of a sudden that piece of strong broke,
And down came all those elephant folk!

Make Some Free Printable Elephant Puppets.
This set of free printable elephant puppets includes three elephants, and some cute little paper flags to hang on your string.
To make your own elephant puppets just print the elephants onto some paper or card, cut them out and attach them to a stick (we used wooden chopsticks!).
We made the elephants a string to balance on using straws with a bit of play dough to hold them up. You can add some fun flags to your tightrope by cutting out the diamond shapes on the printable, folding them in half and hanging them over the string.

This printable is an A4 sized pdf file, you will need a pdf reader such as adobe acrobat to open it. If you are printing on US ‘letter sized’ paper be sure to select ‘fit’ or ‘shrink to fit’ from your printer options.

This is the cutest. This is one of my favourite songs from Play School. When we walk to our local cafe, my eldest likes to balance on a wall and he always asks me to sing the elephant song whilst he is doing so!
I love these & have used them as both puppets & flannel board pieces. I’m a librarian/story reader/storyteller who also does presentations on storytime techniques. Your site is one I share with my groups because it’s such a nice addition to a program.
