How many frog songs do you know?
Make these printable five green frogs puppets and have fun singing all the frog songs you know!
Sat on a mossy log,
Eating some most delicious bugs. Yum! Yum!
One jumped into the pool,
Where it was nice and cool,
Now there are four green speckled frogs!
This has always been a favourite counting song, way back when I was teaching preschool and with my own kids. But my middle child loved this song the most, because when he was little he loved to count everything, plus green was his favourite colour. So since I was working on being the ‘best mum ever’ I combined his two loves – numbers and green things – and made him these five green frog puppets.
In the years since I first made these puppets they been used over and over by my kids and downloaded hundreds of times on my blog. They are definitely a favourite all round, so I’ve recently given them a bit of an update!
Printable Five Green Frogs Puppets
These printable frog puppets are perfect for singing all your favourite frog songs, or even acting out a few froggy stories. You can also use them with play dough or as part of an imaginative play set up.
We used a piece of firewood for a log, and some bright blue tissue paper to be the pool for our frogs to jump into. You could also make a long from a cardboard tube and any thing blue makes for a good pool!
We’ve sung the Five Green and Speckled Frogs over and over and over. Sometimes we’d jump more than one frog into the pool, sometimes we’d be crazy and jump one out of the pool, and we’d always counting how many frogs were left on the log. It’s such a great hands on way to practice counting!
How to Make the Frogs Puppets
I use a regular inkjet printer to print all my puppets. We printed our five speckled frogs onto matte photo paper, but you could also use light cardstock, or regular printer paper and laminate the puppets after you have cut them out.
We use tape or a glue dot to attach a craft stick to the back of each frong to turn them into puppets. You can also use straws, or bamboo skewers, or leave them without sticks so they can be used in lots of different ways.
The frog puppet set includes these five cute green and speckled frogs, as well as printable pages with the words to the Five Green and Speckled Frogs song and the Mr Frog song.
You can download the Five Green Frogs printable puppets here.
This printable is an A4 sized pdf file, you will need a pdf reader such as adobe acrobat to open it. If you are printing on US ‘letter sized’ paper be sure to select ‘fit’ or ‘shrink to fit’ from your printer options.
Please remember that the printables at picklebums.com are for personal use only, you may not sell, share, or link directly to these files.
There are lots of great frog songs – what’s your favourite?
I’ve been requested to make more puppets – do you know any other good counting songs or finger plays that would lend themselves to puppet making?
