Happy Multiple Birth Week!

Oops.. I am such a bad twin mamma, I had no idea it was Multiple Birth’s week until I read about it at My Little Drummer Boys! So I am interrupting the party schedule to make a special side-party just to celebrate those of us who are parents of multiples, who are twins or High Order Multiples (HOM – triplets or quads etc) themselves, or who know and love twins, triplets or more!

Twins!
The Twinadoes, 12 weeks old

I am stealing this link from the Drummer Boy’s blog too. A few facts and figures about multiples my favourite ones being right down the bottom –

This is the breakdown on how common 2 sets of twins are in various zygosity combinations:
2 sets of fraternal twins – 1 in 3000
1 set of identical/1 set of fraternal – 1 in 10,000
2 sets of identical twins – 1 in 70,000

Gotta love that I have a 1 in 10,00 chance of having another set of twins and a 1 in 70,000 of having identical twins again and so going through what we did with the girls a second time around! (TTTS only affects identical twins)

Early on in the girls life I could often be heard saying that I ‘wouldn’t wish twins on my worst enemy’ but now that the girls are a bit older, life is not so crazy and I am actually starting to appreciate having twins. I love my girls and while I, personally, wouldn’t choose to have twins, I wouldn’t change them for the world. I look at them every day and wonder how I got to be so lucky!

I’ve met so many amazing parents of multiples and so many gorgeous kids and adults who are multiples, both via blogs and in real life. On of my greatest hero’s is a mum of triplets who inspires me so much!

I lurk on many great blogs of twins and triplet parents and smile and nod and commiserate along with all of them! So if you blog about twins, triplets or more (or if you know someone who does, send them over). If you know what it means when someone says “multiple’s mums do it many times” or “you don’t scare me I have twins/triplets/quads”. If you have heard the line “double trouble” or “you must have your hands full” one hundred times each time you go out. If people look at you and your family with awe or pity…. sign my Mr Linky below so we can all go check out the ‘twinsanity’ that is your life! (and I mean that in a good way)

  1. Don’t have twins myself, but I do have 7 year old twin niece and nephew. My SIL got lots of double trouble comments when they were babies and my favourite comment that she got several times a day – “Are they identical?” – “No, they are a boy and a girl” – “Yes, but are they identical?”

Happy Multiple Birth week! Gorgeous photo of the girls. I imagine those first few months/years would have been full on but it must be so nice to see them now as such great friends.

  2. That is a gorgeous picture of the twinadoes! I’ve met a few older ladies around here with 2 sets of twins, I think we might have thought twice about having another one if the girls were fraternal – as much as I love the girls and wouldn’t swap the experience I’m not sure I could do it all again.

  3. aww they are gorgeous bubbas Kate – I meant to put a picture too of the Brothers but it was already almost 1am by time I finished.
    I agree with you

    I am glad I met you !

  4. CUTE PIC. And I adore the little diapers too, LOL!
My mother in law is an identical twin…her sis lives next door. I’d been married almost a year before I could tell them apart!! LOL. I used to sneak peeks at their ears cuz Aunt S has pierced ears and MIL does not.
I suppose if it’s genetic then I’ve got a chance of having twins…but like you said, it is not something I wish for. :-)
