Just when you think you have finally got to that magical point where it has been a long time between bad patches and you allow yourself to think that your toddlers may have just reached that magical ‘sleep all night forever more’ stage… then and only then does the infomercial monster rear it’s ugly head again!
Always when you are lulled into that false sense of security. When you think you can push the boundaries and bit and get away with going to bed after midnight, thinking you’ll get at least 7 hours of unbroken sleep regardless and that is surely good enough. When you get used to having your bed all to yourself and have all but stopped missing the snuggles with your bubbas. Why is it always then? When you least expect it that?
Last night at around 2am I had a visit from our number one infomercial commentator. She is very good at her job and loves it dearly. She doesn’t care one bit if it is 2 am, 3am, our 4 am…. and any attempts to change the channel or even ignore the advertorial are met with strong words and even the occasional wailing.
“But it is time to talk Mamma… it is”
“It is the middle of the night Bee, it is time to sleep”
“But Mamma I need to talk to you”
“No Bee… I need to sleep.”
“But I do Mamma.”
At this point I try to roll over and ignore her so she reaches over and pokes me in the eye to make sure I am not asleep.
“Mamma the dog says play”
“Mamma the bear talks to me.. he says bring back my food”
“Mamma I like the skunk”
I am still trying very hard to be asleep at which point the wail goes up….
“Mammaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! talk to me!”
I get cross.
“Bee it is 2am in the morning, Zoe is asleep and I want to sleep. You can either sleep here with me or sleep in your own bed but you need to be quiet!”
“waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa”
“But mamma… Dadda is not asleep… dadda is at work… he will make me toast when he comes home, with jam… and matoes and olibs”
ARRRRRRRGHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!
Why me?
Please at least tell me that one day she will grow up and make a fortune from selling magic knives on middle of the night infomercials and then it will all be worthwhile!
And just to end on a more positive note… a quick LO of zoe done for the PBP colour challenge. Papers and flower sticker are by Chris Turnbull, stitching by Faer Oak. At least this one sleeps well.
Awwwwww you see I understand with complete empathy quietly hoping that Elijah doesn’t read this and think he is missing out on something that his friends know about at night!
We have the odd occassional night here or there too that Master 2.5 wants to ‘go to the loungeroom’ at 3:30 or so in the morning and I swear they do my head inand I send Dh with him!
Awwwwwww.
For the record, at 4.5 we rarely see Mia through the night. And she goes to bed easily.
Na na na na naaaa. lol
hehe too funny!
Love the layout to! :)
LOL….
ah i feel your pain Kate! I have one of each type of child-one who is impossible to get to sleep, but once there, sleeps like a log-and the other, who will fall asleep anywhere (even on cofee tables) but enjoys midnight “chats” and trying-to-gouge-mama’s-eyes-out-and- pull-her-hair-for-fun” sessions :| She is also prone to wandering the house by herself in the middle of the night.
So yeah I sympathise-lots of fun-not.
Oh dear, the infomercials are back?! I hope you manage to get some sleep around them – maybe you need to start having nanna naps? hehe Love that layout Kate, very nice!
I love the moments when they start singing silly songs…..
Stories of your girls antics never cease to make me smile! Think she has a career in the entertainment industry maybe???!!!!
LOL Kate, very frustrating but funny to hear about ;). I’m lucky Julieanne was a FANTASTIC sleeper from the age of 1 (she would put herself to bed lol).. before that though a totally different story!
Rofl, ok it took me ages to figure out who you were talkikng about (serves me right for starting to read at the dialogue!)…
I love how she managed to get it in there that her daddy would do stuff for her, if only he were there, but unfortunately, he was at work, so then it was up to you!!! Hahahaha!
