Ocean Playdough Invitation

This easy ocean playdough invitation is a great activity for sea, beach or summer themes. If you’ve got a child who is interested in sea creatures, boats, or the beach, this is a great way to extend their ideas, practice other skills, and encourage creativity.

play dough and accessories for ocean themed play dough play

You can use any play dough you like for this ocean playdough activity. We used our easy microwave play dough recipe and used food colouring to make some bright blue and some green playdough. We combined some of the blue and green dough together to make it look like swirling ocean water.

We also made some no-cook sand dough which is super quick and easy to make, and so much fun to play with.
You can find the sand playdough recipe here.

We added a selection of loose parts and accessories to make it extra fun. You can add whatever you happen to have at home, no need to buy anything special.

This is what we used for our ocean playdough activity:

  • small stones
  • shells
  • glass gems
  • mini craft sticks
  • grass for seaweed.

You could also use:

  • sea glass
  • pipe cleaners
  • sequins
  • driftwood
  • leaves
  • cut straws
  • bottle tops
  • toothpicks
  • buttons

You could sea themed cookie cutters, plastic sea creatures, little mermaid dolls, or even pirate figurines.

They are small pieces of turned wood. My Dad is a wood turner and these are left over bits or practice pieces that he gives to me. I dyed them with liquid water colours to make pieces that look a bitt like seaweed.
