Five Cheeky Monkeys Swinging in a Tree and Five Cheeky Monkey’s Jumping on the Bed – Do you know these fun counting songs?

Everyone loves these fun songs with the cheeky monkeys who keep getting into trouble, whether that is because they are jumping on the bed, or because they are teasing Mr Crocodile!

Use these fun free cheeky monkeys printable puppets to act out the songs and count the monkeys!

Or you could use these monkey puppets to act out a story. They would be a great way to add some fun to the classic Caps for Sale story.

Here’s a quick video to show the puppets in action

Using puppets to act out songs and stories is a fun way to keep kids engaged, and a great way to work on language skills. You can use these puppets as a group time activity, or as a fun activity to for one or two children to act out songs or stories, or create their own story to go with the puppets.

Have fun singing crazy monkey songs and making crazy monkey (and a crocodile) puppet shows.

Five Cheeky Monkeys Swinging in a Tree Song

Five Cheeky Monkeys Swinging in a tree is one of my favourite counting songs!

I think kids love this song so much because it’s so much fun to make funny faces when the monkeys tease Mr Crocodile!

In case you don’t know the words, here is the version of the song we sing:

Five Cheeky Monkeys Swinging in a Tree.

Five cheeky monkeys swinging in the tree,
teasing Mr. Crocodile,
“You can’t catch me! You can’t catch me!”
Along came Mr. Crocodile as quiet as can be and…
Snap!
He ate him up for tea!

Four cheeky monkeys swinging in the tree…

Three cheeky monkeys swinging in the tree…

Two cheeky monkeys swinging in the tree…

One cheeky monkeys swinging in the tree,
teasing Mr. Crocodile,
“You can’t catch me… You can’t catch me!”
Along came Mr. Crocodile as quiet as can be and…
Snap!
“You missed me! You missed me!”

We made a tree for our monkeys out of a cardboard tube with some slits in the side so we could poke the puppet’s sticks into the slits and have the monkeys in the tree. We made paper palm fronds to poke out the top of the cardboard tube, and stuck it to our table with a lump of play dough.

Then we made a river for the crocodile with some blue paper and some stones, and we were ready to sing and act out the song with the puppets!

Five Cheeky Monkeys Jumping on the Bed Song

Of course you can’t make monkey puppets and not sing about them jumping on the bed!

Five Cheeky Monkeys Jumping on the Bed is another great counting song that has some mischievous monkeys who never seem to listen!

Here are the words we sing for this fun song, or you can see a quick glimpse of us singing it in the video at the start of this post.

Five Cheeky Monkeys Jumping on the Bed

Five cheeky monkeys jumping on the bed
One fell off and bumped his head
Mama called the doctor,
And the doctor said,
‘No more monkeys jumping on the bed!’

Four cheeky monkeys jumping on the bed…

Three cheeky monkeys jumping on the bed…

Two cheeky monkeys jumping on the bed…

One cheeky monkeys jumping on the bed
They fell off and bumped their head.
Mama called the doctor,
and the doctor said,
‘That’s what you get for jumping on the bed!’

We made a simple bed out of some folded baby blankets and had lots of fun bouncing out cheeky monkeys all over the bed and counting them as they fell off!

To make the puppets simply download the pdf file below, print it and cut out the monkeys and crocodile.

You can use regular printer paper, or card stock to print onto, we often use matte photo paper for really vibrant colours. We use a basic deskjet printer for all our printable.

Tape a craft stick to the back of each monkey, or you could hot glue a wooden peg on to the back instead, and you are ready to sing!
