Real Life Wednesday
Sometimes when I am taking photos for a blog post… Sometimes I shove the mess under the couch, sometimes I shift angles so you can’t see that mark on the wall, and sometimes I edit out boogers or marker on faces. Sometimes I choose not to show the photos of my kids doing things I wish they didn’t do, or photos of things I should have done but didn’t (like put the washing away).
I try not to edit out everything and be too perfect, but when I look back at my blog I want to remember the good stuff, not all the not so great stuff.
But you know what, I also want to remember real life, with all the boogers and piles of washing… because there is beauty in the imperfect bits too.
For the past few years I’ve done a blogging series called ‘perfectly imperfect‘ which included posts about finding perfection among the not so perfect and rejoicing in our imperfections. I’m not going to do that again this year, instead I’m starting something similar, but new.
Real Life Wednesdays is a link up of all those crazy little things that happen that make up the every day. The things that are so ‘real’ they are ‘unreal’. The things that make you laugh, because if you didn’t laugh you’d cry. Those kinds of things.
Have you got a random animal problem like I do?
Or kids who like to play in the toilet?
Or maybe piles of artistically unfolded washing?
Maybe you’ve just had the worst day ever and just need a sympathetic ear…
Take a photo, write a post, write a post with a photo, or post a one liner, and then link up. Link up and let us all know that real life happens, and often it is beautiful or special even as it is horrible or insane. Or play along on instagram with the hashtag #reallifewednesday
The linky will start next Wednesday.
Don’t worry the rules are simple – Post something that fits the topic of ‘real life’ (make sure it is not a competition or a sponsored post), add a link back to the current week’s post here on Picklebums and then add your link to the linky. You don’t have to post on Wednesdays, the linky will stay live all week.
Feel free to grab the button code or right click on the banner image above and ‘save as’ to use that image if you prefer.
Hope to see some of your joining in!
I really love this idea! Personally I use the sweep and crop method for my pics. Using your elbow, sweep all the rubble across the floor so it is in a big pile behind you, then crop your photo so closely that no-one will ever know. :)
Kids who like to play in the toilet? Thats me! I posted a pic of my son IN the toilet a couple of weeks ago actually :) I think this link up is a great idea so count me in!
I love this idea Kate! Does the little girl painting newspaper in her pajamas fit? I added that photo to my blog post yesterday and worried what people would think of me. I don’t think anyone noticed!
Oh and funny first RLW photo!
I love this idea. I’ll be sharing this, and most definitely joining in! Hmm… I wonder what will be my first contribution… *drums fingers on desk*
Keeping it real is what lifes all about. Great idea :)
Great idea….i am seriously trying to get over my most recent driving lesson with the teen so when i draw breath again i shall post something ready to link up…cause life is like that!
How about random pet appearances? If we’re inside the dog wants to get in on the action, outside, there are lizards hanging around!
Please don’t edit bits out and move mess and piles of washing, that’s what I love about your blog! It’s normal, and makes me feel ok that I too have lots of mess and piles of washing everywhere. I see so many blogs that have photos of picture perfect, immaculately clean houses, with immaculately clean children to match, all whilst doing some amazing crafty activity, that it makes me feel hopeless and wonder why I can never achieve that. It’s so refreshing to read your blog, because it makes me realise that I’m not hopeless, I’m just a normal Mum doing the best I can, and that’s ok with me (most of the time!) and that’s ok with my kids too. So I love stopping by and seeing what your lovely “normal” family has been up to. And I look forward to checking out Real Life Wednesdays!
Maybe I’ll make this my weekly blog post for now whilst my life is officially madness! :) Thanks Kate…looking forward to linking up next Wednesday! :) Now just to find me a photo….or 10!! haha! These moments come often of late – and laugh I must because you’re right – otherwise it would end in tears!
One of the reasons I love your blog is the clear open honesty that dwells in the things you share on a regular basis – this is just icing on the cake! So delighted to see what your readers share next week!
