Today is Friday.
Right before we ran out of the door this morning Zoe very helpfully said to me..
“Mamma, it’s Friday today. Did you know that? Did you know it was Friday???”
Yes my dear child I did know it was Friday – eventually my brain has caught up to what day of the week it is, but yes, the Playschool calendar is a rather helpful reminder.
I also knew it was Friday because over at ‘my other blog’ I am playing ‘Flickr Friday‘ – this week’s theme is ‘hands’ you should go on over, check it out and and join in. I’ll wait here till you get back….
So we are at the end of a long short week that has been some what muddled, a little scattered and quite busy with nothing much at all. The weekend is looking and the Baldy Boy will be at home for this one so tomorrow he has a list a mile long of things I want him to do. Sunday we celebrate two birthdays and then we head into another week…. a week that will be full to the brim with cleaning and organising and preparation for Muski’s birthday party.
Yes my baby is almost one (we are partying on the 22nd but the big day is not actually until the 25th) and we are celebrating with an afternoon of tree planting! Rain, hail, snow or sunshine (and believe me the first three are much more likely than the last) we are expecting about 40 guests to arrive with gumboots in hand ready to plant trees along ‘Muski Avenue’ aka our drive way.
Before the guests arrive I have to clean, tidy and de-clutter this house so that we have somewhere to put them, cook some yummy goodies for them to eat, buy a kettle so they can have some warm drinks (no we don’t already own a kettle, we don’t drink tea or coffee either), dig a hundred or so holes for the trees (thankfully the Baldy Boy has a post hole digger on the back of the tractor for that), buy a tray of extra trees, tidy up the back yard so the kids have somewhere to play, and try to think of a way we can label the tress that are planted.
Ok you are all terribly clever and wise…. if I wanted people to be able to attach a short message to the tree they plant, how could we do that easily, cheaply and in a way that would last… oh and don’t forget that it needs to be organisable (is that a word?) in less than a week – nothing like last minute eh?!?
You guys were so lovely and helpful when I asked why you bothered to read this blog in the first place, I just know you will come up with the answer to my tree labelling dilemma!
How about you make up some cool Muski’s First Birthday themed note cards using your awesome digi-scrapping skills, have your guests write their message and then laminate them, punch a hole in the corner and tie them to the tree with string/ribbon/something weather proof.
Did you ever buy that laminator? (I LOVE mine)
I was going to go with laminated messages tied to the trees too.
Good luck with organising everything!
Have a wonderful friday!
I was going to mention laminated labels too! Best thing is that they are waterproof!
Laminated labels was my brainwave too, but how about also having a little notebook in which people can write out their message- and any other lovely 1st birthday thoughts with it too- then you can keep it for messages to Muski on future birthdays as he grows and grows. And update the notebook with snaps of him next to the trees and document thr growing all around you.
Kate, I always read your blog. Just realised I can leave comments.
What about something with bricks and paint? totally permanent and you could settle them permanently in the ground as the trunks of your trees mature to full diametre.
