Top Ten Songs to Give Birth By
The other day I asked for your serious, and not so serious suggestions for songs to labour and birth by. Here, with much fan fare and a few giggles is my Top Ten Songs to Give Birth By…
1. May It Be – Enya
Starting off with the relaxy stuff. You can’t go past Enya, though this instrumental version from the Lord Of the Rings Movie is also beautiful.
2. Lisa Gerrard – Duality.
The lovely calm and creative Sherren suggested this one. I’d never heard of Lisa Gerrard before but had a listen over at you-tube and quite like the interesting yet floating and relaxing sound. I think this would work well to tune out to.
3. Boliva Marka
Still going with the relaxing vibe here but this gorgeous Bolivian music always makes me want to dance… which could be a good thing or a bad thing when in labour.
4. Life is Wonderful – Jason Mraz.
This one is suggested by my Small Boy. He (and his sisters, and me too) absolutely adore this song and he asks to hear it again and again. And while we’re talking about the lovely Jason I’ll admit that my mp3 player is already filled with him :)
5. I want your Sex – George Michael.
My friend Sif didn’t think I’d like her suggestion of ‘anything George Michael’ but I have to confess I have a bit of a soft spot for good old George and his music. Wake me Up Before you Go Go seems like a good choice but I chose ‘I want your sex’ to remind me of how I got in this predicament in the first place!
5. Who Needs Sleep – Barenaked Ladies.
Following on from the above reminding me how I got here, I’m also going with this one to remind me what it will be like after the baby is born. I’m also going with this because as Sif wisely said “having music you LOVE is more important than having the RIGHT mood music” and BNL is my all time favourite band.
7. Into My Arms – Nick Cave
This was suggested by Jayne from Spiral Mama and it really should have been the theme song for Muski’s birth as it was all I wanted… for him to be born ‘into my arms’. I got my wish too.
8. Somewhere Over the Rainbow – Israel Kamakawiwo’ole’
This one also made my top ten groovy lullabies list, but you can’t go past such funky yet beautiful music.
9. Push It – Salt and Pepper.
Just to make me smile both Tiff and Super Sarah suggested this one….
10 Ring of Fire – Johnny Cash
Last but not least, quite a few people suggested Ring of Fire – though interestingly I never felt that when Muski was born, so perhaps it is tempting fate to add it to my play list for #4???
What do think?
Have I left any essential songs of my list?
Am I ready to have this baby or what?
Aw! George made the list! I’m impressed! Also lovin’ Salt’n’Pepa!
Some very funny suggestions…love it. x
BAHAHAHAH some of these really made me giggle… I didn’t have music with in any of my labours… I wonder why?
I like the Enya idea, especially LOTR, do you think the sound track will be long enough :-) there are only three 2.5hour movies, after all ?
how about land down under? Lol
Waiting for my real life to begin by Colin Hay, My beautiful boy by John Lennon, Black River by Amos Lee….All were on my playlist
awesome!!
