I’ve got four kids, and a husband, a house, a garden, a car with broken air-conditioning, and somewhere between 12 and 18 chickens. I have enough to worry about without adding anything extra!
So this year there will be no resolutions, no ‘word’ of the year, no promises to do more or be more…
Instead, I’m dumping a few useless things, and lightening my load just a little.
This year I am giving up caring about these ten things:
- I am not going to care about whether I wear the same clothes every day – if it’s clean-ish and I like it, I’m wearing it, no one notices what I wear anyway.
- I am not going to care about whether my facebook posts get any reach – if I find it interesting, or amusing, or cool I’ll share it because it makes me and the three people facebook shows it to happy.
- I am not going to care how clean my floors are – unless I want to spend my entire life sweeping, vacuuming and mopping, it will never be entirely clean anyway.
- I am not going to care whether we eat the same meal every week for an entire year – if three out of four kids eat it, and it doesn’t kill me to make it, it’s in high rotation, end of story.
- I am not going to care if I have to fudge my ‘one second of video every day project’ – this is about capturing memories, not about rules!
- I am not going to care whether that group of school Mums cares to remember my name, or say hello, or even smile – I have lots of awesome friends who appreciate me.
- I am not going to care whether I eat too much sugar, not enough fish, too much fat, not enough whole grains, to many preservatives, not enough protein, or too many carbs – I am looking after my body, not anyone else’s.
- I am not going to care about what books my kids are reading – if they are reading and it’s not x-rated then it’s a win.
- I am not going to care that our house is half painted, that we still have no laundry door and not a single picture hanging on our walls – if you are my friend you like me for me, not for my house, so come on over.
- I am not going to care about what other people think of me – ok that is a lie. I will still care about what other people think of me, I know I will… but I’m working on caring less, because as they say ‘what someone else thinks is none of my business’ and I don’t need to waste time worrying about it.

I really like this. There is so much that we have to care about lately, that we often forget that we don’t have to care about everything.
I recently learnt that life is full of many moments & if we stress about them all then we are actually missing out on other moments. So it’s easier to live life, moment for moment. Be stoic. Be you. and don’t give a rats ass about anything else!

Love no. 9. A friend’s grandmother used to always say, “If you’re coming over to see my house, make an appointment. If you’re coming over to see me, come by anytime.”

I absolutely love number 6 – the school mums, towards the end of last year I made the decision not to care either. The active wear mums, the corporate attire mums, the social loud mums – I just didnt fit into any of those groups, now I’m just happy to wait for my kids.

Spot on. You are amazing and I love reading your blog or seeing what you post on Facebook or Pinterest. Sorry I don’t let you know often enough :-(
Through all the New Year/New Me crap I have read in the past week the one that made me laugh was the one along the lines of “…I will be the same person on the 01st Jan as I was on 31st Dec”!!
Then I read your post just now, and I say, ABSOLUTELY Lady! I am with you.
I know you don’t want any special “Word” as such for this year, however, I saw an awesome sign yesterday, made me laugh (yes, laughed again – laughing is good) I even made one up to put at my desk… “Keep Calm and … WHATEVER”
Thanks for being you! Looking forward to following you into the depths of 2016 :-)

Oh my ‘word for the year’ could totally be ‘whatever!’ LOL I love it!!!

I love your list!! Purging, getting rid of unnecessary things is equally important to adding and changing. This year I decided to only make 1 resolution which is to be healthy (physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually) by making better choices. Keeping it simple this year!

Thanks for sharing.

Oh YES! I’m doing a big “care less about housework” this year. And last year. Because my kiddo is only a kiddo for so long. And I only have so much free time to be working on my art. Things that feed my soul more, caring about everything else a lot less.

Number 3. Clean is an absolute. It is impossible! Is my floor clean? no. Is it cleanER? yes. I aim for cleanER everytime, never clean! =P

Loved your list! Every item. Thanks so much. Meal planning is one of my resolutions and your printable is helping me get started. I said “whatever” to meal planning for years, but we find it actually does reduce stress and I’m finally wrapping my work-addled brain around it. Thanks again! U R Gr8! :-)

I drop off the meal planning bandwagon every so often and that’s always when I realise why I’ve spent all that time and effort planning in the past… it’s maybe not quicker to plan but I find it eases my stress so so so much!

This has been my mantra for a little while but you have pur it so well! In the immortal words of Elsa…let it go, let it go ?

Your list made me laugh. I definitely want to laugh a lot in 2016 :-) I’m one of these strange people who are not on Facebook. Based on what my friends say about their experiences there, I think it helps my life to be more stress free. I think I would be too tempted to compare myself or my life to that of others. I want to continue to practice contentment in 2016, knowing God loves me, I’m okay and have a lot to be thankful for, like a home, family and friends. Thanks for helping me stop for a moment to think about what really matters!

My little girl is starting Kindy this year and I am a bit nervous about the whole school mum thing! I have heard to many horror stories but I am with you I am not going to care if they don’t want to get to know me.

Thank you, just what I needed to read at the moment! I look forward to reading more of your blog and your fantastic ideas this year, thanks.

You are very welcome… I’m so glad others can relate, I did think I might be the only one who needed to just care a little less!
