Easy Art for Kids – Easy to find, Easy to Glue, Collage Materials
“I want to sick something! Mum can I glue something? You know, stick stuff? You know, like with glue?”
It makes me smile the way he talks. From a 2 year old who didn’t even say ‘Mama’ to a four year old who who talks like a geeky teenager.
How can I say no to a request like that?
So I dig out the pot of home-made paste and find some cardboard (we save cereal boxes to cut up and paste on) and then search the recesses of my frazzled brain for things he could paste with. I really need to write a list of good collage materials I tell myself as I cut up some origami paper (it’s all I could find) and start making a collection.
So here it is… a list of things to stick…. you know… like with glue.

Glitter!!! LOL
You know I left glitter off on purpose right?
Nasty horrible evil stuff…
I know you did ;)
Great list Kate. We always keep our Making Box topped up too. Another thing we like to use are the colourful wrappers from chocolates – hope we get a tin of them as a Christmas present!
Felt, fabric scraps, foamies, glitter, rafia, confetti, tinsel, buttons, plastic lids (like sft drink or milk bottles).
I have a ‘collage box’ where I keep all these type of things. I put the smaller, messy things in ziplock bags. Thanks for the list, there were a few I hadn’t thought off.
Receipts, Tickets and Coupons
Hole punch “confetti” (liberated from someones office, or made from the junk mail)… and shreded paper
Cut up drinking straws (actually not sure about glue/paste but kids love to sticky tape them!)
Lids (soft drink bottles, milk bottles, jar lids)… plastic seem to stick best…
I have just discovered you and I love your blog. I just wanted to share how I organise collage shuffle for my 5 and 2 year old. I gong a wooden platter at thE op shop (you can find plastic ones too) that is divided up into 5 sections ( the kind used for nibbles) then I put a different material into each of the sections. I leave it in the cupboard ready to go and change the materials as they get used up. This works for us because it’s always ready to go and the children can access it if I am busy with the baby (or I can do it one handed lol)
This is just what I need to have pinned as my go to check list. It’s good to have a few more ideas that cost nothing, thank you
