Cousins and Cameras
I can’t believe I didn’t take my camera to the family lunch today! I missed so many great photo ops of my kids mucking around with their cousins.
Our kids are lucky to have cousins on both sides of the family who are all pretty close to their age. Our girls are the oldest but only by six months and at this ‘pre-school age’ the big kids all get along so well.
Despite the older boy cousins being quite loud and wild, something Zoe and Izzy would normally not appreciate, there must be some genetic link that makes it all ok, because the boys go nuts and the girls giggle wildly and everyone ends up having a wonderful time.
There was a moment today when the two big boys and the two big girls all had their heads together over some kind of mischief. They were all whispering and giggling and trying desperately not to let any of the adults or ‘the babies’ into their secret business before running off in all directions.
It was one of those moments that make you pleased to have family. One of those moments when you shake your head and smile and marvel at the genetic links that make those kids ‘know’ each other so well. One of those great moments… and I didn’t take the damn camera!
Yep. This happens to me too. Forget the camera at birthday parties when the kids are eating donuts on strings on the clothesline, or all dressed up at family gatherings. At least you will remember how wonderful these moments were..
Those moments are hard to ‘capture’ in photos anyway – and there is something to be said for enjoying life as it is, not just through the lens all the time. ;) I have to remind myself that sometimes!
The cousin bond is very special isn’t it? My girls have 2 cousins – 8 year old boy and girl – and the connection is so strong even though up until a year ago they hardly saw each other. It must be genetic.
How lovely!
I do feel sad that my girls don’t have cousins their ages close by to have that sort of relationship with.
I grew up being the youngest out of all the cousins so I too missed out on that.
