F is for Friday… and other things too!

Today is Friday.

You might notice a recurrent theme on my blog of late – I keep naming the day in my posts. That is for two reasons, one, because my brain has stops computing what day it is every now and then, and two, because the Twinadoes have had a sudden urge of late, to know what day it is.

They need to know whether it is a kinder day or a non-kinder day and more importantly who’s turn it is to choose the CD at bed time. After months of having to be the ‘all seeing all knowing judge’ I got tired of the tantrums when my verdict didn’t appeal to one of the parties so I wrote a list. I wrote out the days of the week on a sheet of paper and next to each day I wrote a name… Izzy or Zoe… and on Sunday, just to keep it even, Mamma! Now each day, several times a day, I am asked what day it is, and then to point out that day on the list and then to congratulate whoever has their name is beside it. The Twinadoes can easily recognise/read their own names and after a few weeks they are beginning to try to identify the names of the days as well.

This morning Izzy asked me what letter today started with, she already knew what day it was because she’d just watched Playschool (my children have learnt all they know from Playschool). So I dutifully explain that yes today was Friday and Friday stared with an F and that F makes a ‘ffffffffffff’ sound “fffffffffff-friday”. I watched the cogs turning inside her head for a second or two then her eyes light up and she said …

“F.. fffffff… ffffffffffffriend…. F is for friend!”

Oh my goodness my child is a genius!!!

Unfortunitely the cogs stopped whirring just a second later and she couldn’t remember just what an F looked like so needed me to point out Friday on the list of days and then needed to have a five minute howl when she realised that although it was her day to choose we would be at Nanny and Bobo’s for the night so she would actually not get a choice… arrrghh… but for a moment… a fleeting moment… my child was a genius.

Not just a genius for connecting the ffffffff sound with another word she knew, but also a genius for making me think about that word… ‘Friend’.

I have started showing more often, I must have, because my friend moved to Queensland, obviously because I smell (that is the second close friend I had had move to Queensland in 6 months I will have you note so it must be me!) but now they are back! Ok so I don’t really think my smell or lack there off can drive people to move interstate and I am not really so full of myself to think that they are back just because they missed us either… but oh joy it is so good to have them back!

We spent a lovely couple of hours just doing what we do… the kids played, we chatted about life the universe and everything and I felt so happy and joyous and like I could possibly, actually, crawl out from under my rock again and potentially come over all sociable or something! Just having a chat with a good friend seems to open up so many possibilities, so many positives. We seemed to fall over ourselves making plans for all the fun things we could do… dinner at each other’s houses, visiting mutual friends in the Big White Bus, a Cinderella Movie night for our girls, a night of tequila and dancing for us…. oh the possibilities are endless and it is good. F is for Friend and it is good.

    1. LOL, what a good girl picking that nice “f” word ;).. and yes very clever of her too! Great to hear that your friends are back… and I’m sure it’s got nothing to do with the extra showers you’ve been taking ;).
Oh and as for the skirt on my blog.. the instructions are there in case you have nothing to do (yeah right!), and want to whip 2 up.
      Have a great weekend :)

    2. Your post is glowing :)

I am also assuming you mean ‘started showering’ instead of ‘stared showing’ .. took me a few minutes to work that one out :P

      SO happy for you & S :) :)
