Misrepresented Mama

Posted on May 11, 2008 8 Comments

We don’t really celebrate Mothers Day in our house, or Father’s Day for that matter, (I know, shock and horror and gasp and how could you…but we just don’t) but that hasn’t stopped me having a giggle and enjoying the presents the Twinadoe’s made at kinder…. even if I do feel a tad misrepresented!

We were away for the Mother’s Day Morning Tea at kinder but the girls bought home their secret packages before we left and made me promise not to open them until Mother’s Day – not that they had any idea when that actually was, or much about what it meant. They managed to wrap their heads around the fact that it wasn’t until we got back from holidays and so they have asked every day since if today was the day – finally this morning they got the answer they were waiting for.

They loved the idea of the present being ‘a surprise’ but accidentally told me what they were several times in general conversation over the course of the last two weeks so I happily feigned surprise when I opened the decorated paper bags to find a beaded bookmark in each and a card.

On the front of the cards are hand prints and inside their teachers have written a list of questions and answers about their Mum!

My Mummy’s favourite colour is…
Izzy said- orange.
Zoe said – red

What? Orange? I have never worn, bought or owned anything orange in my life!!! Red… hmm well red is ok, but my favourite colour is blue… blue people blue!

My Mummy’s favourite food is…
Izzy said – lolly snakes.
Zoe said – everything.

Everything?? EVERYTHING? Sheesh what does she think I am? Some kind of eating machine?
Now Izzy is pretty close with this one, I am quite partial to a red snake or two.

My Mummy likes to drink…
Izzy said – special things, lemonade.
Zoe said – daddy’s special stuff, it’s cordial and it’s red.

Now there is only one reason why their teachers would have included this question and that is to giggle about how many kids say that their Mummy likes to drink wine, or bundi and coke or tequila – so I got of lightly. I don’t like lemonade much but I do drink the Baldy Boy’s red cordial often. Interesting to note that the girls think that it is all special, mystery stuff, that is because I am a mean mother and only let them drink water while I guzzle the sugary special stuff

I love my Mummy because…
Izzy said – She got me a new car seat.
Zoe said – she talks on the phone and sometimes lets us do it too!

Well yes Izzy did get a new car seat (so did Zoe by the way) and it was a momentous occasion which really does call for undying love from my children… but talking on the phone?? Um… I hardly ever talk on the phone. I dislike calling people with a passion. I have phone issues… and the girls hardly ever want to talk on the phone when it is offered, so I have no idea why that earns me Zoe’s love, but anyway.

So while the Twinadoes argue about who’s bookmark should go in which book I have had a quiet chuckle reading their cards and thinking that this is merely the beginning of amusing child-made mothers day gifts – I have years of this goodness ahead of me! I wonder why Muski will love me when it is his turn!?!

Hehe – It’s always funny (and a bit scary) to hear what they love about us, isn’t it?

I now have visions of you wandering round, chatting on the phone, wearing an orange dress, eating lolly snakes and drinking red cordial!!
